Just found this, hot off the press!

Carjackers, armed and after luxury cars in Sydney, have been foiled in their attempt to steal two cars worth more than $500,000.

About 10.20pm (AEST) last night a 66-year-old man was attacked by two men - one armed with a handgun, in Haymarket, in Sydney's CBD, police said.

The attackers demanded the man hand over the keys to his $185,000, 2005 model Mercedes, as he was making his way to a restaurant.

He was assaulted and threw his keys on the ground when he saw the handgun.

The carjackers could not start the Merc and had to abandon their bid to steal it when two people in a taxi saw the incident and came to help.

The would-be carjackers got into a stolen silver Nissan Skyline parked in Sussex St and escaped, police said.

The attack appears to be linked to an earlier carjacking attempt where a number of men tried to steal a $400,000 Mercedes convertible in Wolseley Rd at exclusive Point Piper in Sydney's east.

As the men approached, the owner drove to Rose Bay police station.

The incidents follow an attack on a 49-year-old man by two masked men when he returned to his Rose Bay home in his black two-door coupe at about 9.15pm (AEST) on Thursday.

After fighting the men, the owner retreated and watched as they sped off down New South Head Road in the car, worth about $500,000.

That case was believed to be linked to a July 29 incident where a gang stole a Mercedes-Benz from a man reversing into his Vaucluse garage, also in Sydney's east.

That vehicle was used in a string of hotel robberies.

Now can anyone tell me why Skylines are so damn popular when people are using them to commit crimes? And also, the more important question... anyone lose a silver Skyline?
