tdawg - did you import a R34? and did your RAWS follow your request?

I ask coz I've started calling RAWS in Qld who are R34 plate holders and I mentioned this request to them and they said

'No, can't be done. Have to be cut and disposed of. Pics then have to be taken to prove the xenon unit has been removed and evidence given of where the unit was disposed/destroyed. Car can't be complied otherwise.'

I have only called 2 of the 10 RAWS in Qld that compliance R34's, maybe one of the remaining 8 RAWS will do it. If they're legit and want to keep their business running I guess they'll cut the xenon units out. If they're a bit dodge and follow a customers request well they must have a back up plan when compliance gets turned down.

I have called 8 of the 10 compliance workshops (in Qld) and all of them have said the same thing. They will not comply with that request. If they are a legit business what difference would it make if I was a real (or pretend) inspector or an everyday private buyer?

What are the odds of 8 out of 10 RAWS holding back any possible oversight in the compliance process?

If the government has made it so the xenon units in the R34's are to be removed to meet ADR's then workshops are to comply or run the risk of being investigated and either lose the right to comply R34's or be closed down.

I wholly don't agree with the removal and prove of destroyed/disposed xenons either.

Things like this I'd keep to myself.

"If they're a bit dodge and follow a customers request well they must have a back up plan when compliance gets turned down."

Well this statement asnwers it self as to why the new scheme was introduced so if you want an R34 you will do as they say since they dont want to lose thier bussines over a set of head lights.

They dont comply due to the leveling device fitted.

I wouldnt do it if it came to me.

Where does it say anywhere that the wire has to be cut? When cutting it is not required for a halogen conversion?

The wire is part of the headlight unit and not part of the HID unit itself.

That’s like saying a RAWS workshop could lose their licence for leaving some of the wire in place after cutting it because it was meant to be fully destroyed.

Totally ridiculous!

I too am about to face the same dilema in a few days....with my 34

The only thing i can think of is to take out the ballast and igniter and the globes (i think that is right) before it gets to the compliance workshop....

Now the only problem is that some compliance workshops are really following every letter to the T so they will ask you what happened to the missing stuff....to which I believe you are supposed to shrug your shoulders and act ignorant.

Anyone got some solutions to this issue?
