Hey guys

i was just wondering, for those of us in VIC....with skylines being above the legal power to weight ratio (the turbo 1's) for p platers, i was wondering if that means you CANT have it registered in your name?

what do all you guys do?

is it against the law to register it in your name? if its not against the law does it make it harder or anything like that?

thanks

it is in my name.

and it is legal (32 GTSt four door)

It depends on what you have. the only legal turbo lines (R32 - R34) are

1989-1991 R32 GTSt four door

1991 -1993 R32 GTSt coupe and sedan

If you wish to debate this, firstly do a search, and then do some good research.

ALL The other are illegal.

What line do you have? / Intend on getting?

PS Should this be in the vic section?

i think you are talking about R33's

i can register a ferrari if i really want... its not illegal to own and register one... hell you can even inssure one.... how ever you aren't allowed to drive them. simple as that

My 32 GTR is on my Dads name, 33 GTST is on my Mums name (helps with insurance too)

I've been driving turbo imports since I was 16, the issue has never come up.

Dunno if they let u register cars that are over the limit on your own name or not, pretty sure they haven't got a clue and allow it.

Hey IOWNU,

Id have a close look at ur insurance policy if you're driving a skyline which the insurance is in a parents name.

Most insurance companies (like just cars) will not pay if you are not listed on the insurance policy. And if you are listed they will increase the premium by a heap.

yup. the only driver they care about is the youngest one... or weakest link in their view. when getting quotes they ask the question "youngest driver of car".

I'm in WA so this probably doesn't apply to you guys, but my car, R32 GTSt coupe is registered and insured in my name.. Insurance is a c**t tho... ;) costs too much

I'm in WA as well, but I can tell you that in Victoria there are rules regulating the maximum power to weight ratio a car can have for a P-plater to drive. I think the max is 125kw/tonne, but might be wrong.

From what I understand it works better than the system soon to be introduced into NSW, where ALL turbos, superchargers and V8s are banned. This means slow-ass cars like the Saab 9-3 and Smart for2 are banned. But if I were on my P plates I could go out and get a 206kw Nissan 350Z, 265kw BMW M3 CSL, or a 280kw Porsche 911 GT3 because they all run naturally aspirated six cylinder engines.

Great system! Glad to be in WA where I can drive a Ferrari Enzo on my P's if I want to (and I would if I had the cash).

Cheers all.

A bit O/T, but you couldn't have any of those cars, there are also 4 and six cylinder cars that are banned, inlcuding the NSX, all porsches etc.

Back O/T, Vicroads doesn't care unless they get their money. Ditto for some insurance companies, until a claim has to be made.

how bout insurance mate? you put it in your name? ever made a claim if it is in your name?

just cars want $2196 for me, im 19 with no accidents etc, i think its an ok price...massive exess though, and anyone been stiffed when making a claim, like do they say, well you shouldnt be driving it its over the limit etc...

just wondering so i know if i should put it in my parents name and just not get a rating

yeah insurance is in my name as well, i started off with third party fire and theft $649 for a lighlty modifyied ( pod, exhaust etc ), wish i hada gone comp but coz like ive mentioned a few times before on here, lady hit me yada yada, but im upgrading to comp, and its gonna cost me $2,500, the way i see it.... thats worth it, coz it cost me 5 gran 2 fix the cars damage, so $2,500 seems a logical choice if ( god forbid ) something happens to my car again :P

    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. • There's a huge reason manufacturers are tuning in dead flat torque curves... Make them reliable (and more drive able)
    • What HVAC actuator is under the steering wheel? Do you mean on the RHS of the centre console, immediately to the left of your shin? If so, then yes, it is probably that one, because that is the mode door actuator, and from what I know, it's still a pain in the arse to replace. I don't know about whole dash out, but you certainly have to rip into the centre console section. I don't know if it's covered in the workshop manual, as I haven't spent much time looking at those parts of it. (and by "the workshop manual, I mean the R32 GTR one, which is the most comprehensive one we have, and it should be similar enough between that and later cars to serve as a guide).
    • ...oops. forgot the TCU end...
    • No I got mine from a friend that had fabricated one … but I had to fit it to my setup which was a hks turbo setup. His was a Garrett -7. So one of my turbos was not a flange for one side … then I had a leak in the welds I had to find a weld shut … in the end the setup was decent priced but I spent a lot to get it fitted. A couple companies I checked would make it but you’re talking 7-9k aud with titanium. No joke mine was 6-7k even second hand after I had to fit it in Hong Kong … labour is expensive here.
