yeh i am in syd, im getting all my work done by a mate who works with MRT performance, they specialise in wrx's, so i get most of my stuff cheap and he is not charging me much in labour, i will prob get mrt to tune it for me as one of his mates tunes power FC's and he has shown good results in the past..

as for the progress guys, i hit a small delay today, this morning i pulled off wat was left of the standard turbo and started trying to fit the new GT30R, only to find it is too big and hits.. so for anyone out there trying to fit a GT30 u will need a spacer for it to clear any of the engine, so i have to wait till monday, i guess i will get back to work now, i going to fit the fuel pump and regulator....

Post a pic of your GT30R....Id like to see it and compare it to mine. I make 230 rwkw on a high compression motor on pump but with a proper FJ20ET, it makes 260rwkw. You shall no prob making 250rwkw at 20psi. Make sure you upload the compressor cover and the exhuast also includling the cartridge where it has the metal garret tag.

ok guys here's wats happening:

for those of you who are thinking about using a GT30R or any of the GT30xx turbo's on their r33, dont listen to wat the sellers tells u... nothing lines up and it certainly does not bolt straight on!!! u will need either to opt for an externally wastegated version with a different manifold or do it the way i am about to, as it is too late for me to change and go for an externally gated setup.

i had to get myself a spacer between the manifold and turbo that is about 1.5inch thick to move the turbo away from the manifold so it doesnt hit it, without the spacer the turbo is too big be bolted on prop, now once that is done the spacer must be this thick as u will need heaps of room to twist the turbo so that the actuator can be bolted on, it is hard to explain, but trust me i tryed every possible measure, it has to be like this..... and finally none of the oil/water lines fit they have to be made up, so suppliers will say it fits but trust me it doesnt!!!!!

once all that is down the exhaust dump must be modified to bolt up, and the intercooler piping has to be modified to fit the turbo.... so more $$$$$ then first expected.

I cbf quoting a few points, so i will just state my opinion on a couple of issues raised and hopefully you know what i am refering to. :blink:

1/ At 14psi i honesty do not think you will reach 250rwkw, i think you may require about 18psi.

2/ Suspension plays a big part in drag racing, and if you want a decent 1/4mile time, raise your car (temporarily) to at least std height, this will allow your suspension to have maximum travel. If you have Jap coil-overs then that is a disadvantage, as even on their softest setting they are usally too hard. Remove any strut bracing or roll cage, etc, This will allow the chasis to flex on take off and transfer more weight to the rear wheels.

3/ If you drive like a 40yr old (casual driving style, with the occational squirt, and the rare flogging) then yes, your std motor MAY last 80,000km@250rwkw with std eng, if it hasn't had a hard flogging b4 all these upgrades. But if you like having "fun" and give it heaps every other day, it may only last a week/month/year: Who knows?, just be prepared to build it properly if it decides it's had enough.

4/ MRT, are they the guys that entred Vic. Dutton with a red VY commerdore and a crazy fuel cell set-up in the boot?

Some of the subaru and ford guys make their own custom AFM. This means they take the sensing element out of their original AFM and place it in a tube. Highly technical, they have really taken into consideration the reversions flow criterias/characteristics that the sensor needs in order to work correctly, ie correct throttling and delta approach angles.

We see all sorts of things at work, eg1. a cobra kit car with an EF 5.0L with an induction system about 10ft long with a AFM stuck on the end. There was a resonance created within the pipe due to the throttle and AFM that caused it to surge. The ecu was out of sync with what the AFM was saying it was almost perfectly balanced so that it would trim the fuel in the opposite direction as needed. Long story short if he had kept the original length of pipe between throttle and AFM it would have worked fine and thats what we suggested.

It is possible to tune an AFM based on grams/s vs voltage (MASS transfer function). I do it all the time when dickheads pull the mesh off the GENIII MAF sensor - thats got to be worth at least 25rwkw's!!!!!!!!

Al wat sort of power do think ill make on 1 bar, also i have a two stage actuator so i can set it to 17 psi also, wat u think ill make at 17 psi?

as for the suspension i dont have jap coil overs, my car is low but has a set of damper adjustable shocks so i can soften the back up a little, however im not going to go all out and raise the car just for the drags!!! my intensions arent to build a drag car, i was just curious a s to wat kind of 1/4mile time my setup would run.

At 14psi i would guess that you will probably make about 220-230rwkw. I am not a mechanic, i am just going by what i have seen other cars make with a similar turbo.

GT30 are indeed big..i didn't realise you were gonna bolt it straight up.. NO..i wouldn't bolt up..and there's alot involve installing them..been there and i know what its like..more delays too hey ?

make sure if you were to get a spacer get it laser cut..otherwise there's another option of geting yourself a highmount manifold so your turbo sit higher,..this is actually a better option for me when i fit my turbo,. you will need to change cooler piping anyways,.why not go for it.

and nope..14psi will not do it.. im hitting 18psi with 380rwhp on my gtst with 265 tyres and still get that bad wheelspin.

get better suspension and you're set to go.

yeh i know, um i got around it anyways, it fit with the spacer and some mdoifications to the actuator bracket...

and yeh if i had known i would of went for a highmount and external gate... but hey u learn from experiences...

a GT30 has never been a "bolt up" option.

its double the size of the stocker dimension wise.

I dont think anyone has done it without a spacer plate

As for the power you'll make.

Depends on the turbo. There is nothing to say you cant make 250rwkw @ 14psi.

Its totally and utterly dependant on the turbo spec and your motor as there are sooo many combinations

Ha ha ha,

I just went through all these issues fitting my gt30 on an rb25det. I also went the low mount and it took me 3 hard days to get the thing setup. I still have to do the injectors and get a tune done, but from the little run I had just then it should pull way harder than the stocker when tuned :D
