Hi All,

Sorry about another one of these upgrade lists, but I really want to get opinions on the following list of mods and how good they will go together...and if anything can be dropped.

Car details are: GTS-T R33 series 1...looking at achieving 300rwkw+

Mod list:

Garrett GT3082R turbo

Turbosmart 48mm pro-gate external wastegate - is this too big?

High mount turbo manifold with exhaust wrap

power fc + hand controller with boost control kit

HKS 740cc injectors

Greddy 11mm 2 in 1 out fuel rail

FSE triple layer rising rate fpr

Bosch 044 fuel pump

HKS cams INT: 256/8.8 EXH:264/9

HKS cam gears

fmic

Greddy oil catch tank (modified with the steel wool and stocking trick)

Ogura racing clutch already fried...upgrade to Jim Berry special

at the same time looking at putting in a HKS kevlar timing belt and some HKS super fire racing iridium plugs.

Is it also required to run forged pistons and upgrade the rods for 300rwkw?

Any opinions on how these mods will go, and if some are not necessary will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

JB

already sold it

but yeah, your gonna need pistons, while its apart slap a set of GTR rods in there for good measure is almost a given

Z32 AFM also - $440

also 3.5-4" exhaust... 3" pushed the limits :D

however...

you wont need the fuel reg.

wont need the fuel rail

as cubes said, it'll be around 15k :D

thats what mine came to incidentally, minus labour and all the other stuff here and there

R31Nismoid...out of interest, how much kw was your sold motor putting out?

ok..so no reg or fuel rail required. It already has 3.5" exhaust.

I was looking at around 15k so that ok (working in London at the moment so its not that much in pounds )

I have seen a few posts around about forgies...are the arias ok for what I need? Also with the pistons is it best to stay with standard or go for the +20 or +40? How much for GTR rods?

Cheers.

First step is normally 20 thou over isnt it? then second rebuild is 40 thou and then third is 60 thou over. I believe you normally only over size bore to those sizes if there is a lip or excessive wear in there.

i would also suggest upgrading the cooling aspect for eg. oil cooler and thermostat also radiator to keep temps in check .

and reguarding the twin feed fuel rail .. i suggest keep it as cylinder 6 seems to starve ..i have noticed this problem on the rb25det's when going for that sort of power .but there just my opinions..

cheers .

I had also heard of front cylinder being starved as fuel enters from the back of the standard rail. Thats the reason that I had it listed. I also thought that the fuel pressure regulator would be required to maintain the correct fuel pressure? or is that only required for really high hp setups?

Cheers

So I would have to wait until the engine was pulled down before selecting the pistons based on how good/bad a condition its in?

If you aim for 250rwkw you can half that bill (7k easy) diy....

Thats what i did...

300kw is over rated  lol

I always had a goal to get it to 300kw, so will have to pay the extra for pistons and rods for the engine to last.

I was going to do a lot of it diy...with the help of a mechanic which should save a lot on labour costs.

Quick question...will the block need machining for the new pistons to go in or can they simply be changed over and the block put back together again?

Whats the use for the car?

For general street duty's and the odd track day providing rev's are kept reasonable a set of stock prepped rb26 rods are fine.

Order the pistons once its all been measured up and set the quench and comp ratio up exactly the way you want it.

Measure each piston and machine the bore to suit that piston. Theoretically the pistons should be all equal, make it a nice motor, double check and tripple check everything.

made 270rwkw on 17psi (gt30 600hp)

we ran some good fuel for a few runs and walked away with 369rwkw @ 24psi (autosalon this year where i was 2nd rwd behind niges supra which is a monster hehehe).

Not too shabby i thought.

Stock fuel reg, stock fuel rail. Trust me. There is no problem using the stock items. As long as your fuel pump is upto the job.

Im using a surge tank/bosch ext pump as i was getting problems with fuel surge.

The motor did 10,000kms, showed no signs of problems.

The motor is getting pulled down as part of the sale etc so it'll be interesting too see however i expect all to be well.

Get the motor apart and see with yours. The RB25 was using 87.5mm Arias pistons, prepped GTR rods which in a combo will outlast over 400rwkw no drama.

GTR Rods are cheap as sh|t, $400-$600 (max) is what you pay.

good bang for buck provided they are in good nick.

hope that helps you

Car is daily driver and will also be used for occassional drag and circuit runs.

Will definitely want it to be done well. The block I will get an engine builder to do to make sure it is done right. The head and the rest of the work I will do myself with a mechanic

Thanks heaps thats very useful info...

Would I need a surge tank setup if it is mainly street use and only occassional drag/circuit?

Glad the rods are not that expensive

No problem dude. If you have any more Q's just drop me a PM anytime. Happy to help as i've done basicially what you want to do

i dont know how different the HR31 tank is compared to the R33 one.

as long as you keep it full and above say 1/4 id say it would be fine... but dont quote me

I was getting surge at even 1/3 tank. But i think that could of been the walbro pump too playing a role. They are a piece of rubbish IMO.

Changing made one of the bigger differences during a few months od R&D to getting it making more power than 250rwkw and couldnt workout why.

The plan was to track my car a lot this year but it hasnt happened much to my dissapointment. Surge tank wasnt expensive (even tho it was custom made) and i had a bosch ext pump lying around, linked it with the walbro (just used as a lifter pump not mains)

For $300-$350 or whatever it was. Definately fixed my problem.

cool...thanks for that :P

I have seen a few different surge tanks around and they aren't that expensive, but didn't know if i really needed it or not for mainly street use.
