hey peoples

i was just wondering if there was any difference in the way an r32 rb20det is wired up compared to an A31 as a mate an i have gone halves in a r32 front cut because he needs the 5sp conv and i want to change my non turbs into turbs.

ssooooo will it all just plug up and go or will i have to modify any help would be cool cheers :(

The wiring looms are different... simply because the majority of A31 wiring looms use different plugs to the R32 looms, therefore the plugs on all the sensors are different too. I compared my 89 CA31 to a mates 89 R32 and we couldnt even exchange coil packs or anything between the two RB20DET engines because of this wiring difference.

JK

use everything from the front cut.

engine, loom, AFM, ECU and coilpacks.

A31 engine has different profile exhaust cam

also ecu only has half the maps

and the afm is the same as an r31.

I had an r32 engine in my cefiro but it used the a31 loom and computer. it caused me all sorts of problems. swap the lot and sell all your old bits!!

oohh crap.... i might be needing to swap my motor aswell and got a rb20det lined up... man if i need it i HOPE it fits...

is there anyway of checking if its the same type? like what jaik said with the coilpacks the same or not?

NEED TO KNOW THIS BEFORE FRIDAY!!!

cheers.

Sweet as its pretty interesting to learn this stuff that they put such variations between the a31 an r32 engines one of my mates was saying that the a31 rb20det is down tuned by 20 or so kw and 40nm of torque over the 32 one of course his figures are probably out anyone heard anything along these lines???? ;)

Yeah the A31 Rb20Det is slightly detuned, but i dont think it is by that much

i made some calls on this and i was told by a workshop who's been around for a while importing parts etc... that the main difference between the a31 / r32 rb20dets was the turbo's (r32 better) and something else i cant remember lol. but he did say that the coilpacks and computers 'should' all be interchangable and has never had a problem with this in all his years.

I cant speak for the turbos as mine was not original when i git the car.

but you can use an r32 ecu on a ceff rb20 and vice versa.

be careful with coil packs tho. they have different resistance and peak coil capacity.

the worst that can happen is a popped coil pack or 2 tho so no real biggie.

no matter what bits you get you will be able to make it all plug together and work.

But if possible use an R32 loom as the cefiro loom does not have the right consult port to use the consult cables you can buy to see what the engine is doing.

ive put a cefiro rb20 into my r32.

all we did was swap the coil rails over, temp senders swapped, oil senders swapped,CAS swapped and my turbo from the 32 we put on the ceffie motor.

Only thing that was a slight hasel was the oil breathers on the rocker covers, the r32 has a different bed on the rocker covers, so we had to get a new peice of hose to fit to the return line to the inlet of the turbo.

We havent noticed any diference in power compared to my mates 32's. It actualy pulls quit hard compared to theres.

good luck with it

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365.
