Just fitted my head unit today, after reading it twice, getting a headache , i went and go the Aeropro loom Part Number APP0120 from supercheap, it was $15 ish $$.

Made it easy, had it hooked up within 15min and aerial works fine on FM and AM. Don't need to read through the thread at all if you get one...lol.

standard speakers are ok actually(my car came with no stereo), but i have some maximo 6 splits and alpine 2 ways for back doors coming next week

cheers

Thanks heaps guys. all your info was spot on. had my old unit out and the new one in and running in about 2 hours. i must mention the yellow and black stripped wire for the powered antenna. aint mentioned much earlier in these threads so i thought id pop it in. It was the only one left over at the end and i was like "WTF". powered antenna awesome.

Yours had the Bose, right? You need the G35 facia with the climate control settings on it. I think this is it, but if you search you'll find the right thing: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2003-2004-INFINITI-G35-SINGLE-DOUBLE-DIN-RADIO-DASH-KIT-WIRE-HARNESS-ANT-SILVER-/400244842089?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d30739e69#ht_3336wt_1162

That way you can fit any head unit.

I was lucky, my RS has the three gauges and a single DIN stereo, changing the stereo was easy!

I don't think I have the bose version, I just want to play my cds and listen to aust radio channels.

This is what I've got.

I just want to get something like the below unit. Don't really care about the TV, just need a new unit. How hard is it to install a unit like the one below or something similar?

How hard is it to install a new unit? Would it be possible to modify the existing facia to take in a new head unit or is it a must to get the new facia. I'm just trying to see whats required in getting it done and if the new facia is merely cosmetic.

If you compare the location of the buttons in both pics, you could possibly cut yours out to suit a double DIN unit. Depending how handy you are with tools (Dremel?) the finished result may be ok, especially if you could hide the edges with some sort of stereo surround trim. Question has to be how valuable is your time? I'd buy the facia so you know it will look good & fit your stereo properly. Looks like they come with mounting hardware as well, so if you try to cut yours to suit, there may be a few more hurdles to jump that aren't so obvious to me right now.

That bottom pic looks the goods tho. Is that toggle button a custom job turned from aluminium billet?

Probably... isn't that your car?

Watch the video above and buy the fascia. Don't cut the stock one, that'd be a nightmare!

Yeah the second picture is off this website, not sure who it belongs to though. I was using it as an example of what I want. The facia from ebay is it colour matching the rest of the dash? The one on ebay looks light grey, there are no actual pictures of it jst a little cut away picture.

I have pulled out my stereo before and its not too hard to do (my failed attempt at adding the fm band expander).

Need a bit of help. I've been looking for the FM band expander that fits in the Nissan OEM stereo (double diversity plug) but no one seems to have it. The guys at Repco, Autobarn and Supercheap don't have them. I've looked at the Aerpro catalogue but cant find a FM band expander that accepts the OEM double diversity aerial plug and then plugs into the OEM stereo. There is an adapter but it only accepts the OEM (double diversity) aerial and the other end is the regular aerial bit.

I've seen one on ebay but the frequency is only 14Mhz (I heard 18-20 Mhz would be best) Ebay Link .Any thoughts on this?

Any one know where I can get a band expander that accepts the OEM (double diversity) aerial and plugs into the OEM stereo?

Doesn't the 14MHz in this case refer to the JDM radio range (76 - 90Mhz)? The band expander takes it to 88 - 108MHz which is a 20MHz range. IMO the one you linked is what you need.

It refers to how much Mhz is added to the existing band. Eg 76-90 A 14Mhz now becomes 90-104Mhz and 18Mhz becomes 94- 108Mhz. The frequency on the radio screen stays the same you just ad what ever band expander on top of that.

Also you cant make the old dash work because the radio circuitry supplies the AC controls. So you need the AC controls that come with the kit. So you basically have to leave your old radio in there if you want to use AC.

Thanks for clearing that up Brad (obviously I've got no idea, haha). All I know is I'm glad my car didn't come with the integrated stereo/AC controls.

No, you can ditch the POS Bose system.

Your options are:

1. Remove Bose, order new fascia, fit new fascia and new deck.

2. Fix Bose, install band expander.

What you can't do is remove the Bose, and cut the existing fascia to fit a new deck. If you do that your air con won't work. That's why you need the new fascia, it gives you the air con control circuitry.

Cool thanks for clearing that up for me. Looks like for Christmas I'm asking Santa for a new fascia and deck.

For the time being I'l get a band expander, I'm sick of listening to the shit radio channels. Damn, anything below 90Mhz sucks balls. Some of the shit that plays on those channels would kill kittens.

Hey guys,

I too am interested in finding a way to connect the xanavi to an aftermarket head unit as the unit I got doesn't play cd's so I was hoping I could wire the xanavi to the head unit to use the cd player function....
