Difference is, America back in the day had a special option system. So you could go a great big engine, by pretty much down grading your brakes... But yeah, fing fast. One dealer modded car they went so far as to say you will run a 10.x sec 1/4 or your money back.

It's just strange to see whats happening 30 years later.

They were monsters...something like 178mph top speed. Officialy 430-450hp, but years later it was revealed they had more like 600hp. They has 12.5:1 compression, cant recall if they required 103 or 106 octane fuel, and didnt come with heater or fan shroud to try and dicourage ppl from buying them as road cars. Basically they were the muscle car equivelant to the GT3 Porsche :D

1.9 seconds for a 0-60 MPH in a rear wheel drive? I'm a bit sceptical about that.

It'd have to have MASSIVE tyres (like 400mm wide), probably slicks, and perfect surface for traction. What do these things weigh? Less than 1000kg?

Lingenfelter claim their hottest 427 kit is good for 3.2 0-60 on "ET street tires", ie drag radials. This is beleivable. 1.9 is stupidly fast.
