Ok i guess other people have probably asked the same thing heaps of times and a sorry in advance, but i did a search through the queensland forum and couldnt find anything on it. Basically im looking for a workshop in brisbane or surrounding (gold coast) to do some work to my engine and tune the power FC without airflow metres. But i dont want to be stuffed around, ripped or have my engine blown up during the tuning. Need a reputable shop. People have suggested mercury and apc. But dont think i'll be going to apc because of a thread i was just reading (thanks) . Are mercury as good as everyone says they are? is there any other shops that are good with GTRs?? Anyway hope someone can help. Cheers

Your going to hear bad things about all workshops.

APC are good, mercury are good. 101s tuner is good. Matty Spry at PITS is good.

Thing is, which PFC do you have? Cause if you have the normal one, I dont think you can just take off the AFMs...

If you want stuff done on the motor as in rebuild/headwork go see JH Hill.

I am a big fan of Chapman & Chapman, the guy doesn't have a workshop full of race cars for no reason. Its sometimes takes a while, can be expensive but the work is always A1. Has done many many GTRs, there is always at least one in the shop. Just don't go in there like you are an expert on everything, otherwise you will just be walking straight out again :(

Yeah ive had work done with Chapman & chapman and i was impressed with them. Just dont think they had a 4 wheel dyno. Sorta looking for a place where i can get it all done at the one shop. I live about 6 hours away and i work heaps so its just about convenience. VERY impressed with all the cars in his shop too.

I am getting a D-jetro computer and stuff. so yeah.

I just need some advice, maybe someone has done a bit of work to there cars at a shop and where very impressed, and i also know about word of mouth about workshops. anyways

Cheers.

I highly recommend Andrew Chapman as well

you can get all your work done at his workshop, including scaling and wheel alignment. He does street tune though but you can definitely expect to see positive results.

I highly recommend Mercury Motorsports ! They tuned my PFC and got more power than I ever thought possible on an awesomely safe tune ! Especially considering I live int he hot ol' tropics .. they tuned it on a cold as day and I still never see knock above 20, even when it is hot up here !

Highly, highly recommended ... hmmm ... I think you even get 10% discount for being a SAU QLD Member ??

I've heard from some people that d-jetro can be a pain in the ass to tune, I know that Mercury have said that they can tune them but at the same time the recommended not to use one. How much hP do you plan to make? Cause you see GTRs making 450rwkw still with Z32 ones. Is the d-jetro really worth the extra hassle?

From my recent research the D-Jetro isn't the recommended upgrade.

Unless theres more information/mods you haven't told us about.

I wasnt really aiming for that much, but i done a fair bit of research last night and decided not to go with the dejetro. Aparently Mercury can't tune them atm either, waiting on some program or somthing.

I was only going for around about 350rwkw. I guess i'll go with chapman for all the work and maybe try mercury for the tuning. But im still in the process of aquiring all the parts. But i just thought i'd plan ahead first.

Anyone got a pair of Z32's for sale??? haha

Thanks for the help people

Cheers

Well, if you are after those sort of numbers, then just get a normal power fc, as I've been down the D jetro road and have hit a few brick walls.

btw 600rwhp is achievable (not by me) on a normal PFC with the right AFMs

and I've been told by friends from nipponland D jetro on the street suck arse (economy/idle) and I went against their advice Doh!!!!!

So back to the plain old pfc.

getting the right parts before going in is always a good idea. Be prepared to wait a while to get your car back on the road again becos quality work = quality time :D

just outa curiosity, what sorta gear are you getting for your car?

hi, i would also try Charlies Motors. They have left me with a very reliable safe tune. Also been to PITS and i have no real complaints. Charlies were really prepared to go the extra distance to ensure the car was running perfectly though.

Mercury MS has a really good setup also, but not sure about tuning GTR's?

Cheers,

Francisco

twin trust t517z, nismo injectors, aftermarket turbo manifolds, power fc, exhaust, umm well pretty much the standard mods, just keeping the engine as is for now and seeing how much i can get out of it. Saving for a os giken 3L haha. might be saving a while. BUt i was reading an old article in HPI and they got 340 out of there skyline with basically the same mods. They were trialling the t517s against the 25-30's. Should have all my parts with in 2 weeks. But i wont have my licence back til november so ive got plenty of time to stuff around with the car. Just didnt want to do the turbo's myself because i work out of town and i leave all my tools out there, plus its a shit of a job.

But cheers for the help guys. Fully appreciate it

jwah, when reading magazine quoting power figures, take it with a grain of salt, also the other question, you also have to ask, is how long it's gonna last at those figures, any car can make larger than normal figure, but it's useless, if you have to rebuild the motor every other week end.

hmm i know it'll probably cut the life of my engine by alot. But it doesnt really bother me because i'll be putting a new bottom end in it in the near future.

I have also been told by others what power they have got with the similar setup. But im not saying i will get like 350kw, but i can set a goal i guess? I wont be disapointed if i dont get it. But yeah i just thought i'd give it a go. I dont see why not push the standard engine to its limits, if ya got the money to fix it then i say go for it.

dont get d jetro... its a pain in the arse to tune for a daily driver car....

2 z32 afms are good for 600 plus rwhp... so why bother with d jetro for maybe 20 more hp..

apc are good with power fc they have laptop software for all gtr power fcs...

cheers.
