usually they cover the bits that leak under constant use like brake master cylinder, clutch thingy, power steering, etc so the fluid doesnt make a mess in the engine bay...

the reason is as mentioned above when a car is taken for a drift/track racing/motorkhana, etc these fluids leak out so the gloves absorbs the leakage really... hopefully its not covering any damage...

^^^ Yes, that is correct.

Nothing to worry about. Drifters cover the power steering resevoir as this can leak under high g-forces, and if the liquid leaks onto hot cooler piping or turbo it could potentially start a fire.
