Ive got a black R33 with black wheels and I think it looks very sinister. If you want matt black just go for it! Your car and your money, and you have to live with it and if you like it then why not?? We all have individual tastes.....

i personally dont think the matt finish would suit the R34 at all. it would look unfinished... same with semi-gloss black, maintenance would be a killer too. dont paint it in anything less than 2-pack paint. 2K gloss paint has properties that protect against weathering too.

will see what James comes back with in regards to info... i think the only thing i might look at now is satin as opposed to matte.

I don't think i'm game enough to go matte, yeah it is up to me but like sambo mentioned resale is something i gotta think about.

Won't have the car forever, gotta use it to make way for the R34 GTR in a few years :O

reason for respray? no, paint isn't fading or been in an accident (as far as anyone can tell, but how do you ever really know?) but the car had the hideous Alita/Nismo rear spoiler... which i dismantled... but it's BOLTED onto the sides... hence it was about $1500 to metal weld and respray rear quarters, and then a litte rust spot under brake light on bootlight, so for $3k i'm getting the whole car done... may as well, won't be any paint blending either. Plus getting bonnet cut to fit front bar.

so yeah, probably heading for metallic black, with a bit of tweaking with some blue pearl maybe ;)

hey sewid,

yeah, guess you could say it's mates rates. The guy knows his shit tho... don't become an approved BMW panel beater/repairer/etc easily. He's this crazy Austrian, funniest bloke :O

It's $3k respray, including metal weld of side quarters (6 bolts per side) from where the spoiler was... plus fixing like a 1cm rust spot under brakelight on the bootlid. Cos u gotta cut that out and metal weld again. So i thought that was a good deal.

But, (there's always a but) he said i gotta organise for someone to take the rear and quarter windows out (for a proper respray) and i gotta remove the trim myself. He'll come round with the tow truck, flat bed thingy one day and pick the car up. So a little prep work by me with the trim removing, but shouldn't be too hard. He also told me to buy a full set of new clips when i put the trim back in, so everything will be like factory fitted again ;) And to also tint windows when they are completely off the car, so you get it perfect. Like i said, he does things the right way, none of this folding back seals around quarter windows stuff..

But yeah, just waiting on this front bar and i can get things rolling! :)

what about some sort of silver pearl? That even possible? Like a diamond schwartz kinda deal?? So in some lights u'll see a hint of silver, or refletctive dark grey or something?

Cool, thats a good hookup you have there even if you do need to do a bit of work.

How do you go about getting a full set of new clips? These are things I break every time I do something on the car so I wouldnt mind having a spare set lying around. I swear I just LOOK at a clip and it snaps in half...

Anyway what is your current paint code? GV1 (Black Pearl Metallic)?

I reckon matte black would look awesome on some cars... something with no shine at all.

Would it still have a clear coat over it? That would give some shine i think? But without it the car may be a harder to clean than a porn stars cock after some badly timed anal :P

I like the matte/satin look.... very stealth bomber. Would make it look like it was made for business, especially if you could fit some laser guided bombs or something

But like someone else has mentioned you would probably get raped when it came time to sell.

It's interesting too see everyone’s comments, but given the number of hideous skylines I’ve seen with awful bodykits/spoilers/mags or with neons its hard to tell with the internet if the person giving the advice has even the slightest clue themselves.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
