just wondering how much youd pay for an r34 n/a, basically want 2dr manual with preference colour being silver, have found two in sydney, both 99 models, stock standard, one with 70,000km for 28k and the other with 36,000km for 29,000 however i find the 36,000km hard to believe, these are surely a tad expensive (both dealer cars) and really am only willing to pay up to 26k, should i be able to get a 2dr manual within my budget or are these decent prices? cheers

hi reggin,

I just got a '98 R34 N/A for $25,000 (but $4,000 less for trade-in of my old car = $21,000 owing), so yeah you're not far from getting what you want for $26,000. this car was originally priced at $27,000.

Mine is semi-auto, 2dr coupe, dark blue, 25,300KM, perfect inside, runs great. only downside? no spoiler.

you're lucky to be looking for a manual so you have so many more options than I did.

Good luck, keep looking and take your time like I did.

just had a look at the yellow skyline for sale on nissansilvia.com, very nice however however have just had a yellow lancer so dont want another yellow car,

not really all that keep on importing either, sure i could save 5grand but i think id rather buy one locally so i dont have to wait 3mths,

and WPNR34 maybe im looking in the wrong places but most of the gt r34s for sale in oz seem to be auto tiptronic and/or 4dr, any advice on where to look for more manuals would be greatly appreciated!

and do you really think the 36,000km for a 6yr old car would be genuine? seems a bit suss to me!

cheers guys

I dunno, most places I went to in Melbourne were selling manuals over autos. Just check out carpoint.com.au and carsales.com.au, compare the number of auto and manual Skylines available.

I was sus at first about the number of km, but yeah, to be honest there's no real way to tell even with log books/history. But irrespective of that, I still would of paid the same amount even if it had 70,000km on it so I'm happy with it. the interior is in immaculate condition so it doesn't seem so unrealistic. I've also seen a few '96 R33 skylines with around 40,000km. if only there was a definate way to tell :P

mine also has a Pioneer deck RRP $1,500, 18'' alloy mags on it and brand new tyres RRP $170 each too.

G'day Champ... I actually noticed JapLink Motors on Parramatta road were selling a 1999 GTS R34, not sure if it was 2 or 4 door (think it was 4), but it only had approx 40,000km, and was an absolute gem, they were only asking for $22,990.

Check it out... Is a really hot car! ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

I got my 1998 NA R34 in perfect condition with 31000kms 2 years ago for just under 32000$. Had an Altia kit (often mislabelled a Nismo kit) and a massive spoiler. Goes well as well, and that's without mods. Good luck finding one which meets your budget - they are great first cars!

    • Hi Yes we're a bit optimistic we might get something out of sealing up the two pipes of the external wastegate and reactivating the stock one. I believe the orginal stock wastegate was tack welded shut. It doesn't budge and visually looks closed and sealed. The car has noticeably more lag so it could be at least part of the problem, maybe all. It's definately one of the key changes made since last tune. And it's one that's more difficult to fully understand and measure, not like for instance timing or cylinder compression.  Thanks for that feedback, we'll let you know how this progresses. Fingers crossed.   Regards Rob
    • Transplanting the vvt from a 25neo into an rb26?
    • Well, I was going to say, "Is the wastegate set up so that it is not leaking?" That's actually a different thing to what you're asking about. In theory, if you have allowed the two halves of the manifold to commmunicate (more than the stock manifold does - which is at least a little bit) then the negative effect should be apparent in delayed spool, not in outrigth power. OK, maybe just maybe, a badly set up twin scroll wastegate "crosstalk" might kill the top end, although it's hard to see how. What is happening with the original wastegate in the turbo? is it sealed off properly. If it's left flapping in the breeze, it will f**k everything up. If it is still there, and can be returned to service, I'd be capping off the external (presuming the two halves can and will be isolated from each other after doing so) and have a go with just the stock wastegate. I have an internal wastegate in my highflowed rear housing. The bigger opening and flapper should be fine to >250 rwkW. So there's not exactly a pressing reason to have the external. Done right, an external will give better results. Done wrong, it might just be possible to have worse results. Report back!
    • Hi Rob It's a nistune ecu. Yes same shop, good reputation. Apparently the computer on the dyno is compensated for temperature.    Chris was saying that the lean or richness of the mixture would be covered in the actual tune, but he's already picking up in advance that it's under what it should be. Regards the dyno, it's also noticeable on the road. But I just want to add something that has just come in, it appears there might be something in the setup of the external wastegate. In the exhaust manifold there is a centre divider between the front three and rear three cylinders. The external wastegate has a pipe from each side that join at the wastegate. Theory is those two pipes just might be pypassing that divider and introducing a problem somehow. Is anyone familiar with the divider in the exhaust manifold and the effects if the two wastegate pipes were to create a bypass path? Thanks for your questions Rob, interested in your thoughts on this external wastegate bypass theory. Regards Rob
