I have just got my intercooler fitted on my R32 Gts-T.

Getting it back, i noticed in no way did it "feel" like it had anywhere near as much torque, and really feels like its struggling. Quite laggy, no response b4 3k rpm where it was hitting full boost @2800 previosuly. Previosuly the car was running 12psi with a side mount, with a 3inch turbo back system-no mufflers, just a cannon. Now im not quite sure wat it is running as far a pressure, but certainly has dropped, used to go somewhere almost to the 7 on the stock guage now a touch further back ....have an upgraded fuel pump, and k&n filter with a stock box. Will attaching my boostcontroller assist in removing this lack of power...? In addidition to this i was surprised when me and a mate (200SX relatively stock (pod, touch of boost)) on the freeway, both in third doing legal speeds of course :D , both gassed it and it couldnt even pull more than a car away...with the above sorts of mods in comparison to relatively stocker S14, i would expect a little more from the RB.... any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hey, a fairly reputable workshop in adelaide fitted it. Graham West. Running rich-hmmm possibly dunno tho cant really tell until u get it all hooked up.. but i am wanting to get a remapp of the stock comp. Leaks.... what is the best way to tell? Before when cold the car used to do this whistling thing (veryslight) until it warmed up....now it does the same thing to the same extent...soo?? How hot/cold should the pipes be feeling on the cooler just above the engine etc??

It was the full Greddy V-Spl kit....all the piping included...brand new!

but yeah it actually feels like its lost power instead of gained it!....and power comes on much later to make things worse

if you just fitted a fmic to your system and made no other changes then yeah i'd expect more of a lag or delay in response as you have to pressurize all the piping and the larger core now. make do some exhaust changes at the same time? split 3" dump or something?

if you already have exhaust done.

get a boost controller and boost gauge.

get to a dyno place and have them increase the boost to say 12 psi while it's on the dyno.

then you can see if the car is running rich or lean and know that the increased boost is at a safe limit.

and you're surprised that you couldn't pull away from an S14?

You will get slightly more throttle lag when installing a larger front mount and I found that if your running standard ecu you will run really rich thus will rob your power significantly. If there is a leak in the cooler pipes you will hear it, so my guess is that you need to get it tuned. Might be a good idea to get a boost guage to tell you exactly what you running so you can moniter boost aswell, stock boost guage is shite. You really shouldnt be losing power though with the denser air going into the inlet. :)

off topic but has anyone actually seen the stock guage to be inaccurate and give wrong results? i dont see the need for an aftermarket guage

Im sure that its accurate, but there isnt any way of distinguishing small increments in boost. eg my Blitz boost guage goes like 0, 0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4,0.5,0.6 bar etc the stocky goes -7x100mmHG, 0, +7x100mmHG, it fine to guess but can you tell the difference between 12psi and 13psi? If your running a stock turbo it might mean the diiference between blowing it up or extending its life. For the price of $60 to $160 its small invetment.

cost effective method would be to just get a digital boost controller, as it will show the pressure in digital reading, negating the need for an aftermarket guage

What if you have a bleed valve? Personal preference I guess, I find it easier to read than digital.

Add boost. R32's don't have the rich/retard thing like r33's so it's worth doing. Put in 12-13 psi, check it for ping, if no ping advance the static timing to 16 or 17, check it again. It makes for a fun car. Don't run more boost than this for a couple of reasons, 1) the turbo is out of puff and really only heats the air, 2) hot air means ping.

The stock boost gauge is a slow piece of crap btw, it takes a long time to start registering changes. Get an aftermarket, they're cheap enough and good insurance.
