Ive got to go overseas for work in the next few weeks several times, and was wondering if anyone could tell me a safe period of time i can leave the car without haveing to get someone to start it and/or drive it?

I will disconnect the battery, but was just a little concerned about seels or gaskets drying out / seizeing.

So does anyone have an opinion on how long they would leave a car sitting in the garage without turning it over, or am i being a little cautious.

Cheers fellas.

Not that it will make a difference, but the car is a R32 GTR and the time frames im looking at range from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 months.

Cheers

don't worry about it, your car probably spent 3 months without being started before it got to Aus. The battery would be the only real issue.

Just give it some new oil when you get back and off you go :D

just watch for those gremlins.... i had my car off the road for 3 months .. and she was having issues with stalling.. took the car off the road for 4 months and then it wouldn't idle ever again...

just about to get it back on the road again after 9 months .. hope it doesn't get any worse.......

normally it shouldn't be a n issue.. mine just freaked out on me LOL

I would add some obvious things. Don't have a full tank of fuel because it will eventually 'go off' so try and have as little as possible (but not completely empty = bad for fuel pump).

Do as Duncan suggested and replace the engine oil at the very least. I would probably change the oil filter and fuel filter too.

When you come to starting it again. don't try and crank it very first go: let it build some fuel/oil pressure. Its good if you can get someone to turn it over every couple of weeks but I really wouldn't worry too much.

I had my car off the road for 2 weeks, it was little hard to start cause of the battery (cranked longer than usual had to try twice), it also had a bad missfire for the first minute or so but i just let it idle for a while and it was back to normal. I guess it would have been cause of the fuel needed to build up pressure through the lines. But yeah, do disconnect your batt before you go, change the oil and fuel and CHECK YOUR TYRE PRESSURES when you do come back!
