If You Could Buy Any Jap Car, What Would You Buy?

Recommended Posts

If you were going to live in japan for a year, and therefore be able to bring your car back with you (without having to comply it!) what would you buy?

would you get something unique/unavailable otherwise?

or maybe get a cheap/heavily modified GTR?

just interested to see what people think

for a number of reasons, but your situation might b diff.

sheit!! loud ass siren outside!! this is my first typhoon in my life that ill be in! probably just a little flooding in my area.. no where near as bad as kyushu

I am in the same situation now as well. I was originally thinking about getting an R34 GTR but am not so sure now. There are so many nice european cars here that I am starting to sway that way. The price is at least 30-40% cheaper then back at home. Also here you get really rare ones you could never dream of getting in Austrlia.

Thinking about an M3 or 911. hmmmmmmmmm

Exotics:

Tommy Kaira ZZS

Nismo R34 Z-Tune II

Autech R33 4 Door GTR

on the more affordable end of the market (although most of these are gonna be eligible for import soon):

S15 Silvia Varietta

Toyota Caldina GT4

Toyota Altezza Wagon

latemodel Toyota Aristo

Mitsubishi Legnum VR4

S14 Nismo 270R

Current model Nissan Gloria/Fuga if you want to have a unique-ish family car

there's so many to pick from really

Hmmm, Altezza wagon sounds alright, either in the RS200 spec (with the BEAMS 3S-GE) or with a transplanted 2JZ-GTE or VVTi-L 1JZ-GTE.

But that Autech R32 sedan sounds nice too, shame they only came as automatics (as far as I remember)... Six-throttle atmo RB26DE - hello high-rev heaven!

:D

Not having a go Nick, but is there a reason why Toyota enthusiasts always refer to the VVTi 3SGE as a 'Beams'? It's actually just a bollocks name: 'Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System'... rather like Nissans 'PLASMA' engines. I mean, Skyline guys don't refer to CA18s, RB20s and VG30s as 'Plasma RB20'... just an observation :D

Hmmm, unfortunately I thought it stood for something more meaningful than that Rezz.

Oh well. You learn something new everyday - maybe today I took a backward step!

This has been my 3rd or 4th typhoon, which also coincides exactly with the total amount of months I have ever spent in Japan, maybe the country is trying to tell me something? ;)

I was here last year when the big earthquake buckled all the shinkansen tracks etc, I didnt feel it though. Incorrect as it is, I was a bit disappointed i didnt feel it as i have never experienced and earth quake.

Anyways I saw this car in Okazaki last weekend, I wouldnt mind importing it as per the topic:

nissan: stagea (with R34 face), hakosuka, skyline japan, C33 laurel,

toyota: any Tourer Vs will do, Bb,

honda: life or similar K people movers,

suzuki: wagon R or similar K van things,

or if all else fails i want a kick ass van with ridiculous dish, super blister fender and batman wings and a mural of totoro on it!

I love the Japanese philosophy of parking. If you can stop on it, you can park on it.

Oh and I was there for the recent Tokyo earthquake (the one before the Sendai quake) and felt it. They aren't much fun.

You mean like the red top and the black top 180sx SR20DET's which have bugger all difference between em other than rocker cover colour, yet they have forum monkeys spanking themselves silly over the vastly better "black top"?

if you want to buy a car in japan, want something related to skylines that you can't get here, and want something that wouldn't come in under SEVS, and is relatively affordable... then try this:

You just cost and engine importer about $50,000 in lost revenue... ok maybe not revenue but lets call it 'hype money'... tsk tsk :)

    • I'd be very surprised if you can buy new OEM mats. But if you can, I want some too!  Do you have links to the variations you found? Also, where are you located? I found that Nengun is happy to list items to purchase but when you do buy them you'll get an email that it's actually discontinued. As far as I know the variations in floor mats are different colour schemes as well as automatic and manual having a slightly different shape. The automatic ones fit into a manual car without issues, but I think you'd have trouble fitting the other way around. I have photos that show the shape difference if you care. FWIW I bought sets of used floor mats in decent condition at yahoo auctions.
    • Hi ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Just bought my Unicorn but the interior need some minor work so it would match my expectations ;). I noticed it is hard to get used oem floor mats in good condition so i started to dig if there's any chance to buy set of new ones. I found two websites - nengun and amayama and it looks like one can still buy factory new floor mats in Japan, but thers a small issue. Some mats (i assume genuine, oem ones) are marked as G4900 and these are "discontinued". The ones you can buy are marked as G4911 but i have no idea if these are also oem, made by other producer or some lower quality replacements that looks entirely different. Can anyone help? ๐Ÿ˜ƒ  P.s. there is also some strange indication - 0V005, 0V015 and 0V505. Any idea what does it mean? Would appreciate any help with this ๐Ÿ™
    • Hi, Marek here ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ. I finally fulfilled my longtime dream - recently bought Stagea and now waiting for it to arrive in Poland. There's only few of these in my country, and one of the owners  recommended mi this forum as a source of all the info i'd need since now i own one  so here i am.
    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
