Well I got my New A'pexi S-AFC II yesterday and after only 2hours it was in and running (no thanks to a completely japanese manual).

I was wondering if those guys out there with the Apexi S-afc hooked up to the factory ECU and running a factory turbo would like to share thier S-afc settings with me so I can get mine going a little better.(R33 RB25DET).

Details include the Hi/Lo throttle %

The Rev point and mixture + or - on low throttle.

The Rev point and mixture + or - on High throttle.

I don't mind if you have different mods to me (more or less) I am just getting an idea of the curve people are using to offset the factory one. With the knock sensor feature I will have a good shot at tuning quicker this way.

Cheer's

:P:):D

differences:

12 vs 8 tuning rpm points

200rpm increments and fill resolution Vs 500 rpm

Knock sensor input

Maintains more stable signal voltage

Security lock feature

Stores 2 different settings

Toggle joystick Vs buttons

Smaller case same size screen

More display parrameters

Has 30 sec data log replay mode.

but is that included in the $550 you said previously, or is that extra? (so $630 with freight?)

It's just that I have allocated myself a certain budget for SAFC + tune, and if SAFC-II fits in that budget, I would prefer to go for that...

thanks

And then you can work it out by making a purchase and not finalising it. It's a good idea to do this rather than ask me because the exchange rates change all the time, I might say one thing and then because the rate has dropped you might pay $50 more.

rev210,

Did you manage to datalog any info at the track last night?

See'ya:burnout:

Na,

I kept forgeting, was too excited to start the thing before staging. It records the highest points reached on monitor mode though and I used that for knock ( 0 ) and rev ( 6800rpm ).

Hiya rev210,

How much benefit have you noticed with the S-AFC II installed? I would have thought with your mods that you wouldn't have experienced much gain?

I was thinking of one too but I thought I'd only bother if I went a FMIC. Are your air/fuel ratios that rich with only a full exhaust and 10psi and worth 'correcting'?

If so, then I might look at doing the same after my dump/front pipe (my priority!).

**** man dont drive yer car, there s a break or leak in the tubing to your boost gauge, zero means atmosphere pressure, u can **** yer engine, may explain the knocks too, trace along the boost gauge tubing and find a leak ot a break, barstards for breaking it!!!

I dont think so, the car wouldnt go very well with a major boost leak. Just check near the fire wall there would be a small black box on the drivers side with a few wires and a small black hose, this hose has probably just cracked or fallen off. Happens all the time and is just there for the boost gauge.

Rob,

147rwkw pre S-AFC2 on the Tilbrook dyno with the FMIC, 3" Ext, filter, CAI & stock boost (7psi) sounds about right. A dead stocky makes ~120-130rwkw on Mark's dyno.

160rwkw post S-AFC2 & stock boost also sounds right.

Get some boost into that thing & make the most of your FMIC & other mod's mate! You should be able to pick up a basic bleed valve set-up for bugger all (festo valve is cheap as) or a 2nd hd Turbosmart/TurboXS for much less than $100. Piss easy to install. Set-up takes a few minutes! You can then use your factory gauge(once you've got it running) & your S-AFC knock indications to adjust it to a safe level until you get a decent aftermarket gauge fitted.

You'll be fine running 10psi (12psi for drag runs) even with the S2 turbo. Trust me 7psi to 10-12psi with your mod's is a big jump in power. Just waiting for the taking as is!

It provides stronger acceleration due to improved A/F ratios, I am not sure how much accelleration yet.

Worth correcting.

I don't think the FMIC is a particularly good value for money mod on the stock turbo, I haven't done the FMIC yet (probably won't) and I estimate a 12 second pass on the stock turbo next outing to the drag strip. The FMIC or not should have no bearing on when you buy the AFC.

    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
    • Wow the colour matched hard top completely transforms the car. Are there any nice front lip options for the car or is that off the table?
    • Generally yes but for some reason I've been ruthless this time around!  I might even need to do another tip run after the way I've finally been able to hit the delete button on shit I've stepped over, stepped around and tripped over for the past 10 years!
