Hey guys?

Just wanted some opinions on y its so hard to sell skylines atm. I have a number of my own ideas as to y. I cant for the life of me sell my car and i dont think im asking to much... its definately one of the cleaner and cheaper ones around. But not only GTR's but Skylines in general. It just seems that the bottom has dropped out of the import market all together.

Having said that, are there any suggestions as to the best way to try and move a car at the moment... I took it too a dealership to see what they would give me trade for it.. but walked away very disheartened. The lease on the house im renting is up in 3 months and i was going to use the GTR as a deposit for a house, and i dont really want to renew my current lease. So im not real happy atm. Any suggestions??

Cheers

John

I would say because the market is saturated with Skylines which is bad from a sellers point of view but puts the buyer in a good position.

I do wonder whether there is something else underlying though as IMO:

The cars are well priced

Good Selection

Insurable

Relatively good spares base

Good enthusiast backing through clubs

Does make me wonder what people are going for if it isnt skylines. For the record I am trying to sell my Lexus and having no luck either.

Think people are moving on and buying family cars and other such cars (not sports type), and maybe not moving up to GTR's as much as they did.

Hold in there Jon! somebody will buy it eventually. You have to expect 3 months to sell any skyline these days.

Internet forums aren't a good way to get a genuine sale either, but doesn't hurt I guess.

Was just about to say what munna said..

petrol is just starting to climb.. i'd almost reconsider buying my gts-t if petrol was that price when I got it.. luckily it's not a daily driver..

the fact that there is a large number of available cars out there makes it hard..

your never going to get a good price from a dealer.. that's the way they work.. they rip you when you trade in your car.. and they rip you on whatever you buy..

i'm sure someone will come along.. there's a new enthusiast born every day..

good luck

price.

heaps of sellers are dreamers and want what they paid.

Simple questions...

If you tried to sell it for $15k, youd sell it today right ? cos I'd buy it :)

If you asked $50k, youd never sell it right?

So there is a price somewhere in between which it would sell for this week right?

A car is only as valuable as the buyer thinks it is, not the seller.

I recently sold an R33 GTST for $13,500. I thought it was worth more like $15k, but the buyers didnt agree. as a buyer with cash in your pocket, you have plenty of choices and all the power.

you have 2 choices...

drop the price

spend the time to find a buyer that thinks its worth as much as you do.

The harsh realities of supply and demand

Due to the low interest rates of the last few years people have been buying record numbers of new cars and the result is that the used car market is absolutely saturated. All used cars have been dropping more value than in previous years.

all of what everyone is saying is definately true rising price of petrol etc.

i also think you have to consider which age group mainly wants these cars. Usually a larger proportion of the enthusiasts are younger guys and the fact is they dont have any cash. Its not only the the purchase price that you have to consider either. I am only 21 and my gtt takes up alot if not all of my wage to pay loan run register insure etc. All my buddies have the money to purchase one, but dont have the money to insure it firstly and second they cant maintain a performance car so they buy commonwhores falcons etc. They dont want to service every 5000 k's with 50 dollar oil etc

i am crazy about my car on the other hand and i am sure you all are too and we consider the costs invloved with such cars as accpetable seeing as its our release and form of fun!!! But some ppl who just want a nice car and have say 35 - 40 to spend buy "more sensible" cars xr6 for eg , most ppl think that way i rkn. As they have no idea how much fun and how rewarding owning a gtr/gtst/gtt can be.

i think you should sit tight adn wait for someone who appreciates your car and understands that a good clean well maintained gtr costs money. other wise let them go buy a piece of shite 10000 gtst.

mmmm i agree with whats been said.. but i bought the thing last year right, obviously im a little younger then most in the market.. the thing i dont see is everyone here is an enthusiast and you bought as you said full well knowing the costs involved..

Where are the other people like us gone? When trying to sell my other car, i thought most would have jumped at it.. especially at the price i ended up with before deciding not to sell.. just cause it was so original...

I dunno...

Unique Cars is a good selling Mag that is bought by enthusiasts to look for their special car, if your selling a specialist car, market it to the people who are looking for it.

I know this as my mate (a private importer) sells all his cars through this mag.

You have to remember that a car like the GTR falls into the niche market category. A lot of people talk, drool and would like to own one but then they hear and find out the realities of owning one they shy away.

There are very few people out there with that kind of money to blow it out on a car like the GTR.

true.. still.. I tried selling mine at the beggining of the year and found myself in the same predicament which helped my decision to keep it, I figured that i know this car inside and out and nobody else can apreciate that so wotever price i have on it would be too much for a potential buyer that has seen another for a lot less. When you're looking for a car like this, unfortunately, the idea that "you get what you pay for" goes straight out the window and some people just want to spend as little as possible..

well i guess in the end, it all comes to fuel prices. There are so many threads on the internet on both SAU forums and NS.com forums that fuel prices will peak at $1.60 for 98 RON Fuel by X'mas..most people are just staying away from high performance cars for the time being. Let's hope the prices will start to drop next year.

i've got my 180 for sale. Its in awesome condition and ive had many people who are wanting to buy it. But when it comes to laying out the funds, fancy that nobody has it, or they will have it in 1 or 2 months so they ask if i can hold the car for them.

i have had many people come round, go for a drive and everything but they are all joyriders with no money. They all want to drive it just so they can tell there mates. Its unbelievable.

i just had my R32 sold a weeks ago... i had alot of interests and plenty of test pilot

i had to get rid of it cause i had R32 GTR arriving pretty soon so i bascailly was sick of it drop the price and was gone within 3 days so im :D:) and GTR is arriving in 3-4 weeks CANT WAIT !!!

As alot of people said buyers these days dont appreciate the money spent on these cars.... they think just because they see a 89 gtst or a 93 gtst go for 9000, or 13000 that every other car should be this price.

The question is when your trying to sell a car, how low is too low?? thats what im tossing up now and frankly i dont think the price in skylines will change much over the next year or so, so its probably better to hold onto them for a bit longer. Hopefully we'll see if the tradingpost works.

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
