1st pic is the v8 short motor just after i removed it from the engine bay( i only just thought of takin pix at this stage)

2nd is the empty engine bay....lots of room hey :huh:

3rd is one stripped and cleaned cylinder head

4th is the inlet port, nicely cleaned up...

5th is inlet port from valve side

.....

the plan was just to give the cylinders a hone, fit the new rings, bearings, cam and lifters, reseat the valves and throw it all back in, but....

number 7 bore is far too pitted and scored(pic 1 and 2) to hone out, so the block has to be sent to Trapnell Race Engines to be bored out another 20 thou(total of 60) dammit, now i need to take the rings back and get bigger ones,AND buy pistons....not happy jan.

pics 3 and 4 are the valve spring compressor i made, because the one that i bought bent when i tried to use it. Damn aftermarket double valvesprings.:huh:

Trapnell ahahahaha.............. your going to be waiting a while, they have taken 2 years with my bros engine so far and it still isnt done.

Hope it all turns out well tho.

They did the heads for it and we didnt wait for too long. They have been pretty good actually which is nice.

Rang them just before to get the quote to bore out the head for jase and they told me 1-2 days and they will have it done by the end of the week.

We have been told that they can be alittle slow, but so far so good for us, which is lucky, cause we need the v8 running asap :P

Sucks to be your brother then, because i put my heads in to be machined, i got them back the next day.

Then i put the block in on wednesday to be bored and have the new pistons fitted to the rods......picked it up on friday, all work completed.

All work was done by the time he said it would be ready.

I will definately be going back there.

Update...new timing chain cover was in order, and i also bought a speedmaster hi flow, semi hi-rise manifold.

Ok cause Jase has been alittle slack ill add a quick non-pic update.

On sunday we seated the valves (i did one of the heads and im rather proud of myself), finished the heads off and now the motor is looking more like it should.

Fingers crossed that today we might be able to get the motor in!

The v8 is finished.... YAY.

So i will finish this and update you all on what has happened since the last post.

This is as Jase was painting the sump in our infamous Kermit Green... fun afternoon with the paint cans nozzle being poo and annoying jase. In the end it looked good tho.

    • I’m also conscious that e85 is slowly being phased out. Not all United’s have them anymore. Can’t take the risk of being low on petrol and assuming the servo will have it. 
    • MR HAMMER has said his piece. Painted up to avoid Rusty Rusty. Actually lines up well. (i.e it lines up the same as the unmolested GTR guard). Turns out the GTR Strut brace does foul on the bonnet vents ever so slightly. May need a little bendy bendy if intended to keep using with a strut brace. So spacing it out to clear the FAST102 is not an option. Annoyingly, the bonnet vents also foul on the heater lines running over the engine. Given this engine does not EVER require a heater, a delete loop is going to be used. Don't worry, the defogger uses the AC. The heater is basically "Do not use the aircon and turn the fan on". It will still be effective, I promise.... once I get the system regassed... Will have to revisit with unvented bonnet I suppose, and suitable strut brace. There's plans to do this and other things tonight and bleed brakes (there was a weep) and put the bumper back on, and take Good Friday morning - Because troubleshooting on the side of the road limping it home at midnight tonight is ... not very smart.
    • Thank you all for you assistance. I contacted Nistune regarding the support for the RB20DE along with my ECU Code (23710-10U00). They do have a map for it and added the RB20DE as a purchasable option now as well. They also added Malta as a Billing and Delivery options as this was missing. I was honestly amazed at their quick response and action, it took less than 24 hours. I also looked again at direct fit options for injectors, just in case I were to replace them. DeatschWerks seem to use a Bosch EV14 base and makes ones that fit mine at 440cc lowest, but also have 550cc at the same price. I tried looking for other direct fit options and managed to find one (also Bosch EV14 based) which includes a plug and play adapter on ebay. Did a small test with a Noid Light on the troubled injectors and all seems good, so they are pulsing properly electrically. One weird part is that they are missing on the same two cylinders as before I got the injectors cleaned. Mechanic also found this weird as he did not label the injectors and it is unlikely to have the faulty injectors be installed in the same cylinders.
