Viscous Or Mechanical Diff

hi guys

i just imported an r32 and ive noticed that its got a different final gear ratio, and ive noticed that the diff is really tight. this led me to believe that i may have a mechanical but that isnt insanely tight. is there anyway to tell if youve just got a really new viscous or a mechanical?

Well a standard viscous diff is never tight enough to skip the inside wheel in tight corners at slow speeds, does it do that?

One way to tell the ratio has changed would be if you knew the speedo was out

yeah, turn at low speed in circles, and see if you hear it chirp.

Though, a worn mech diff won't do this!

cheers guys, reckons its a just a fairly new viscous. know ive got a different final gear cos it revs up heaps faster in gears than 2 of my friends that also have 32s, and i cant get up to the same speeds as them in the same gears

It could be an auto diff. I think the auto was 4.3:1 and the manual was 4.11:1.

Has the car been converted from auto to manual?

Even when brand new a viscous diff wont lock up enough to skip. No manufacturer would allow such an antisocial noise in a brand new car

all 32 gts man/auto diff ratios are 4.3

Check your revs/speed in fourth with your mates cars, it may have a non turbo box in it. They have shorter ratios except for fourth which is still 1:1.
