Fri 14&29th Oct Drive Day, At The Creek $120

Update?

Niel's car had some slight teething issues.

The weather was perfect for spectating.

The pits/track was absolutely packed with Historic Touring Cars all guzzling about 20L of fuel a lap :(

When their weren't any cars on the track all I could hear was the drag cars at WSID ripping it up :)

I met 1 of the Lebanese A1GP drivers and had a snack with him (that guy has way too many HSBC credit cards :))

yeah there would have ben lots of the Historics there as there was the biante meet on sunday. unfortunately we didn't run spencers car as we got booted off the entry list! they had oversubscribed and gave preference to cars that had contested every round so we missed out. they gave us free tickets as compo, but as it was pissing down on sunday i didn't go out.

Neil, is everything ok now?

Yeah the rest of the day was ok - i decided just to go out and not care about the fuel (although i did go a bit slower on the big left handers)

Rang Nathan - going around tommorrow

Just loved the straight :( sideways (just for fun) on to the straight then holding all the gears flat - cant beat that feeling

It was good to put a few more names to faces

They silver GTR that was there with me - he had an awesome time plus it was his birthday

i was having to much fun to do times!! sorry

couldnt do times anyway - as the others already know i had a fuel leak problem everytime i hit a left hander (most of the track :) ) which caused litres of fuel to escape, so i took it slow(er) around the lefts and looked forward to the rights :)

bummer! pity half the track is left handers lol. I'm guessing when your car was complied they didn't properly seal the fuel filler neck restrictor. oh well at least it's an easy fix. just need some devcon and 20 mins to do it.

Little unsure at this stage Baron, Greg thinks its nothing to worry about. It pumped some oil out a breather so I have to block it off. Seems the rotor doesn't like left handers either. Next run will be on his dyno to iron out some tuning issues.

Richard I did a lazy 1.56,,,and I mean lazy.

Oh and I shouldn't forget Duncan,,,,Thanks buddy you did a TOP job. Don't forget next time you have a problem with Navara to tell Nathan it could be the toilet. HA Ha.

not bad mate 1.56 just tootling around is certainly moving in the right direction. I am seriously hoping once you have spent some time in the car, and have it all working the way you want that you can knock JP off. although i don't know if i should be encouraging a ford to beat a nissan. man i am so conflicted.

don't worry about the oil though rotors are nonstop pumping out of everywhere anyway mate. it's normal that you need to fill up with oil and fuel at the same interval :P

oh and i wont ask what the story is with the navara/toilet isssue.

Baron, just to give you an idea of a lazy lap

1/ Turn 1, button off at the 200M mark no use of brakes

2/ Cruised into 2 but up it for the rent on the exit and still into it hard through 3 and 4 (my favorite section).

3/ Cruising again till 8 (another favorite) only because of the fun you have on the exit

4/ Cruising for the rest till the lead on.

I'm not out to knock John off the top,,,but It will happen at EC. His car is way way to heavy. Jason's car will be the one to beat. Don't be conflicted buddy you know deep down you love Rota's and the Capri's a fat looking car. Hey my wife even loves it.

Apart from the oil leak the car wouldn't pull it's EC diff, (4.94) it was just getting to 8 grand in 4th at the control tower and won't rev over 8. I'm thinking it needs some serious dyno time. Greg thinks the old Mallory tacho could also be a problem as it has a rev limiter.

Enough raving I'm out to the garage.

Neil.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
