have you looked at the regengy experience's thread, the last page talks bout a few options on buying interstate cars and what methods are used by some people. From what I know there are 3 option..

1/directly to regency

2/sturt station

3/whyalla rego + licensing department

I bought my car from a dealer in queensland. It's a 98 R34 GT-t and all i had to do when it was here was take it to the police and get them to find the chassis number and engine number and then take a piece of paper to the registration place in Goolwa (i live in victor harbor)

I got my car shipped with toll and will never use them again i got a nice dent between the door and the wheel arch and they wouldn't accept my claim. Gonna cost me about 800 to fix. So yeah hope it helps.

i am looking at a few cars in sydney at the moment myself, with stamp duty would you pay that upon purchasing the car in NSW (in my case) or when i get back to SA and who is it paid to? also is there a fee to transfer the plates from one state to another? apart from the actual cost of the plates ($20 i think)

I brought over a car from victoria earlier this year. All i can say is book yourself a regency appointment now cos I ended up getting told i needed a full roadworthy when I took it down to regency and I had to wait over a month for an available time slot!!!! Got my old boy to take it down and it went through first time though. Make it as standard as you can and there's no reason why it shouldnt be sweet.

I bought a GT-R from NSW last month. Took it to Regency for the required Identity Check (Note that a Roadworthy Check is NOT required at Regency if the car has a current interstate registration - this is clearly spelled out on the SA Transport web site). Regency issued the Identity Check in 5 minutes and I had SA plates.

There is a checkbox on the Identity Check form for "Requires Roadworthy Certificate"... this got me worried for a bit, but they never bothered with it, even though the car has many after-market bits and pieces clearly visible.

I'm guessing they tick that box only if the car:

1. Has been written off interstate or is obviously repaired.

2. Does not hold a current interstate rego.

3. Is presented by someone under the age of 30 - sorry guys I am 35, and they didn't even blink at this car.

Actually I asked my lovely wife to present the car... it was a cold day and, shall we say the "headlights" were on :-) Anyway, whatever it was there did not seem to be any problem with brining over a sound, registered interstate car.

Nothing wrong with a high beam at the right time!!! I think I had issues as my car was sold unregistered in Vic and I had temp registration... Def a good idea to get somebody who looks half responsible to take it down though as Im assuming that would be better. As to mods on the car if they crack the bonnet for an id check I'm assuming it wouldnt be too flash if you have real obvious mods...

All i did was go to the victor cop shop and they found the vin number and engine number. They filled out a form then i had to go to goolwa to the registration place and they finialised everything. Then the plates came in the mail.

the car i am looking at is regersted and has a victorian rwc if that will help in anyway. If i have to go have it checked out im gonna try and get it to sturt police station. a friend or a friend took his car there and i have been told it is better/easier then regency.

I live in the same town as kralster, so ill see if i can take it to the cop shop down here and get them to look ova it.

after having trouble with the cops doing this a few weeks ago, just keep this in mind if buying a car from VIC without roadworthy. the owner keeps the plates, so you have to get a permit to drive the vehicle without a roadworthy. GET A SINGLE TRIP PERMIT, not the other option which is to take it to a mechanic to get roadworthy done. the fine is $500 if you get caught (driving unregistered vehicle) and then you need to spent another $50 for another permit, which is the same as the first one with a differen box ticked.

also, even though transport SA will tell you otherwise, the SA Police WILL NOT recognize the victorian unregistered vehicle permit, so get an SA one before you go.

be nice if they agreed seeing as we had a form filled out ready to get the SA permit, but upon taking it in, they said it was a waste of money and the VIC permit would suffice. towing a car back from SA/VIC border @ 70km/h is not fun.

Im a bot confussed, i have heard a few stories. a mate of mine broght his fto from victoria. he told me that all he did when he brought his car was sign that rego paper, drive back ova here(on his L'sat the time witha fully licenced driver), took it to the nearest motor reg (being goolwa as he was from victor harbor as well) paid the transfer cost, stamp duty and what eva else then he received his number plates in the mail a few days later. end of story, no trouble at all.

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
    • Either way he still need those style of spacer to go into the manifold because the photo he currently has is not going to work
    • You can just get the injector bosses, which allows top feeds to fit. He can use the same injectors without issue, like these (another option): https://rocketindustries.com.au/af59-2210-rb25-fuel-injector-inserts     The Racework ones look a bit better: https://www.nzefi.com/product/raceworks-lower-injector-mounting-boss-kit-for-r33-rb25det-s14-s15-sr20det/   You could also just get a similar kit like the Radium one by Plazmaman: https://plazmaman.com/product/nissan-rb25det-r33-billet-fuel-rail/?srsltid=AfmBOoogfYq49X0fu2Wdbf8yOf6zt9egyPAif_gn3Qr3G8hzAphhTgOkO70
