Mechanical Or Viscous

r32 gtst has a mechanical 1.5 way diff. It uses a clutch pack in the diff to limit wheelspin. Over time clutches wear out especially if diff oil is not changed very often.

Some later models like 33 gts-ts used a viscous diff (thick syrupy oil that gets thicker the more you try to move it so it basically locks the diff if one wheel spins.

Get another diff and check the pre load on when it locks up of get your one rebuilt.

If ya want more lock get em to put in more clutch disks into the stack for more tension (more positive locking).

ok am confused now. the dude at the diff shop said if it were viscous he can rebuild it but cant guarantee how long it will last. and he said if it were mech just to go get another one for bout 350. just trying to work out what would be better value for money?

well, you have 2 choices, rebuild the viscous, or go aftermarket (which means buy a mechanical lsd). Aftermarket will be much better and will last longer than a reconditioned viscous.

Garage-13 sell the Kaaz ones for a good price ~$1,100 for a brand new mechanical lsd 1.5way or 2way
