Yeah I think if you took it in to a mechanic, they would try to remove the radiator first and waste a whole lot of time. It took me about 4 hours without removing the radiator. Just gotta remember to mark the position of the gears in relation to the belt before you remove it, and then put everything back exactly as you found it.

I am a mechanic and i have done many skyline timing belts and to do it thoroughly it is at minimum a 2.5 hour job. Its also alot easier if you just remove the radiator which is only a 10 minute job in itself. Im also a believer in leaving the water alone if there are no signs of leaking. I have had the front covers off on skylines with 160,000ks + and the origional waterpumps were still as dry as could be. In saying that i have also replaces a few that were weaping at the 100,000k mark. I think it has alot to do with how often the coolant have been changed.

I'll bet for the prices that I was quoted for a timing belt change ($430 to $800) they would've taken a lot longer than 2.5hrs. I'm guessing that it's something you do often/have done a few of Bleach1? 2.5hrs is awesome for such a job! I've found that on my Skyline anyways that the reason jobs like this take so long is because nuts/bolts/clips are so hard to undo or are in the most awkward place to get to!
