Has anyone heard about a new type of radar gun in use by the Police here in WA?

The reason I'm asking is I just got my first speeding fine in 12 months :P . My BEL 980 radar detector didn't make a peep.

The cop car was pulling out of a side street to my left so I'm hoping the angle was just wrong and the detector just couldn't pickup the side-on radar.

I've almost convinced myself that it was just the angle that meant the detector didn't him pickup, if he'd been behind or infront it would have gone off.

Looks like I've found the weakness in the detector, it really needs to be a little dome thing on the roof that picks up 360 degrees around you plus above you aswell for those freeway overpasses.

Although it would probably look stupid.

my new XR400 picked up laser about 6-800m away on a straight road, gradenko can vouch, they pickup really well.

Thing is if its laser they actually have to have it on you, or a car near you for it to pick up, so if you're front of the pack then it will just go nuts when they gun you.

The laser is prolly just a really tight focused beam so unless it hits the detector dead on it wont detect it. Not like the old guns that had a super wide beam and just sprayed all over. Like u said he was off on an angle and not directly in front of u.

Go on then put a big ass detector on the roof and then get some neons to go with it, it will look phat!!!!

A big satellite dish should do the trick.

Nothing is fool proof, and with the number of cops on the road it would almost be impossible not to get done. I seriously saw more then ten different set of traffic cops out today. Good time to commit a crime, no cops actually stopping that, there all out collecting money from us.

See'ya:burnout:

Ive got two of the best radar detectors on teh market and they sit to the right land left of my nose, they have saved me multiple times and i havent had a ticket in 3 1/2 years.

If u wanna speed go to the track or save that 3am in the morning. last thing u want is to lose ure lic and its that dam easy. Take it to the top of 3rd get clicked and its all over.

Yeh i know its a rant i just had to physically restrian my self from speeding this morning as i woke up at 8:30 and had to be at work by 9, god dam right laners

Look out RICE ppl

With the number of cops around I don't think your eyes will save you, just have to be more sensible. If I speed then I accept the consequence of the fine. I don't mind paying the money it's the points I can't afford to loose.

The cops are out in force at the moment, so I don't speed much, I leave it for the drags etc. It makes it very hard though when idiots in Commonwhores want to race, but I just shake my head and laugh, they wouldn't stand a chance anyway.

the radar detectors that pick up laser are good, but if your the only car on the road you'll prob still get booked, cause once ur detector picks it up they already have the speed ur doing, they work well if driving in a bit of traffic, cause u get the reflections of the other cars and can make sure ya doin the spped limit.....

my 2c

Cam. :D

Yer drove throught that on the way to the Plex

1x camera near western mining

1x rader cnr Pattersen / Old Mandurah rd

1x Booze Bus at old Kwinana Bus Station

1x Roadworthy at the bus station

1x Camera before Ankertell road

1x camera Gilmore ave

1x radar Thomas Road

The Plex was surrounded

If they wernt targeting people going to the Plex it was just pure coincidence that itsa was whoop ass wednesday and most people who attend go from rocky / kwinana area

I dont mind blitz but if they want to encourge people to race at the plex then thats not the right way to go about it

    • Breather for it. If it's anything like the GTRs it should run up to the top of a bellhousing bolt.
    • What basics? With these OBD1 ECUs it's not like the ECU will give you any real clues, it's not really doing any sanity checking of sensors/sensor data. My experience is actually a lot of sensors tend to be the source of the issue first and foremost, and checking everything gives you a direction to investigate. MAF/O2/STFT/LTFT should all kind of make sense. You can try little tricks of the trade like tapping the MAFs to see if it triggers a stumble, things like that. But once you've done a compression test knowing whether you have an air leak or fuel delivery problem is kind of hard to narrow down without sensor data. And you don't really know if all your sensors are making sense unless you can interrogate the ECU directly about what it's seeing for sensor data.
    • Absolutely this. Yes, except not vacuum hose. Something oil/fuel safe is a better idea.
    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
