Hey

I am a fitter and turner and I am looking to move to brisbane.

If anyone out there is a machinist or fitter can you give me the heads up on what people are getting paid these days and maybe a few good places to drop a resume??

cheers.

Being a Fitter myself I can tell you your job prospects are pretty good. Depends on what what you want to do. i myself have changed jobs 4 times this year chasing bigger dollars but have settled on a good job wth Co car and negotiated my own package at a decent rate. I applied for everything I could, went along and saw for myself what they had to offer then decided which was best for me. DONT sign on with a labour hire co because you can do it all yourself IF you can afford to take a week or two to do all this. Look at the long term. I found that the high paying jobs were the ones no-one else wanted and involved tasks that were dangerous and short term or just plain boring.

The best place to look is CareerOne and is where I got my job.

The highest paying jobs are in the mining sector and are mostly fly in fly out, the next best is the Ipswich area as no-one wants to work or live there, your best bet is the south west area of the CBD as they have good workshops and are offering decent wages.

I settled in the Logan area when i got here and held out for a job in this area where the wage is a little lower but is close to the coast and Hoons are a part the lifestyle.
