Good luck with the tune and run-in Nick......Hey Mik, what work are you getting done??

Hang on its not Anzac Day.....but i can hear a bugle playing......gotta go.

Thanks Paul, I will hopefully post some results once its complete

Ben,

Great to see its come along so nicely. It's been a fair while in coming but it looks like you've made all the right decisions.

Now you just have to hope the NSW cursed SBS doesn't hit you!

But it would be great to see you down in Vic sometime - have you come down and play where the real track GTR's hang out!

:D

Ok my small brain can't work out what SBS is....

I will certainly take the drive to PI (the long way via the great ocean road) from here in sunny Adelaide as soon as there is a open practice day going.... and I am in OZ ;)

what is a good lap time for you there?

oh and Mik? I thought you were getting engine work done???

SBS = sump baffle syndrome.

Funny thing is I think there have even been a few engine let go up there that have had sump baffles fitted.

Dunno - SK has some interesting thoughts on SBS but I can't comment as its not something we really see down here at all.

As for the Island - well its a fun track to get your head around due to the speeds. Given there are 3 corners taken at over 200km/hr it takes a little while to have the confidence in your car and yourself to go flat out.

Anyways - when I went I was told initially the aim was to break 2:00mins which in a GTR with semi's is pretty easy. Then go from there.

I've managed a best so far there of 1.49.3 which was with the stock turb's and Tein HA suspension. Hoping to lower that this weekend but not sure if the weather is going to play nice or not. Given its all big sweepers just about the track grip levels will play as much a part on me lowering that time as anything else.

But from all my times to the Island there only ever been 1 other car (GTR) on street tyres crack a sub 1.50 so thats a reasonable bench mark to aim for.

guys,

I may need to pull out my R1 - you can't beat the power/weight ratio of a 2 wheeler :D

Todays street 'superbikes' carry 185hp & weigh in @ 170kg!!!

No modification needed unless you want to launch into orbit

(my best time @ Eastern Creek 1:39 on street tyres)

yeah SBS is an interesting one. I think Ben has baffles, or custom sump or something.

don't worry snowman for now i'm flying the flag in NSW of being the only bloke in GTR running around without baffles. Done a few OP days and EC too as yet no problem (touch wood). but i must confess i did just buy a set of tomei baffles for insurance ;) and will put them in when I whip out the motor. Boy will i look stupid if i fark the motor due to oil surge :D

crotch rocket junkie eh? no wonder you need GT-RS turbos... car will still feel like a nugget next to the bike, but at least you can pick your nose while driving... ;) show me that on a bike. hahaha

Interesting, i ran my r1 with my gtr (im on the bike, g'friend driving the gtr) - they actually accelerate identical to 1 another although as soon as i change gear i pull about 1/2 a car length on the bike...

my g'friend tends to change quite slow & gentle (not being sexest here ok) so i think with me behind the gtr wheel it would be very equal with the faster gear changing

this was done on the m5 in sydney here with a no. of runs varying from 80-120 all the way to 240! shhhh

let's test it again, this time i'll drive your GTR, you ride the bike. sounds good. :D

BTW though in rolling acceleration they will be close as the huge amount more power the GTR makes make up for it's weight disadvantage.

BUT i'd like to see you take the GTR round EC in 1:39!!!!! bike will be miles quicker under brakes, and through corners.

no picker noser's in my car - i can imagine the nuggets u would leave behind like droppings! LOL

right on the topic here of gtss's huh!?

Gtr would never crack that time - absolutely impossible!

its the other way around - i.e. the bike is slower thru cnrs & under braking due to the tyre surface patch BUT a bike will make up for it on the straights

ahhhhhhh but marko, take the bike and the car to say wakefield and your GTR would smash it....

to put all the bike V car stuff into perspective, an F1 car is about 9 seconds faster at sepang where both race ;) game over....

but yes stock R1 V anything legal???? 1 to the bike :D

I still remember that day you and I saw that guy splattered on the old pac... I'll stick to driving, as a mistake in a GTR is easier to fix....

nice!

so what suspension are you running now? I have tien HA and am looking at getting the group buy on the whiteline gear for the rest of the package....

any other bits worth getting???

Can we possibly have one thread without the dick swining/bitchfest, I mean is it even possible?

No, thats why they call id Brag Racing :D

What mph and 60ft is it running with the 2530s?

As for PI...nothing compares to Sandown slow corner exits and big heart in the mouth braking...its easier to enjoy then the balls to the wall, lunatic GTR drivers apply at PI ;)

Bit of a joke....ok so were talking about you now are we

My wife runs 11's.....so your 12.1 is the laughing stock now

Dyno modes are not important to us....you were the tool who thought it needed mentioning!

EDIT: Ive just been informed that this isn't the only thread that youve been bitchin' about this ....... you really must get over it. PM me if you feel you have more to say....as this is getting off topic

"My wife runs 11's.....so your 12.1 is the laughing stock now"

Good one mate, comments like these really shows how professional "DIRTGarage" is, how about you get off your high horse and show us a dyno graph of your car done in non-shootout mode, or will that degrade your 'world leading' figures????

R31Nismoid made a comment with sarcasm and you've obviously taken it the wrong way.....

williamsf1 - very impressive result, those GT-SS's are proving to be quite a package when matched and tuned with the right parts...

Keep up the good work.....

    • Thanks Dose.....    I appreciate it!!
    • I'll probably be putting the shit box back on the dyno again soon, I want to dial in the closed loop boost control properly. I'll have a camera facing the car/motor for fun too. Just note, there are essentially 3x 10AN inlets going into the catch can and 1x going back to the intake pipe. Most of the time the catch can "return" to the sump actually is the crank case breather, pushing air out.
    • I have the R3C with a Nismo slave and by no means does it behave like a stocker, it ain’t THAT bad. On take off just give a bit more throttle than you would say a coppermix and it’s fine. It will not slip though.
    • Okay. Final round of testing done. Got a friend to hook up a fancy scanner to the car and we also ran some compression and leakdown tests, she is healthy.  The MAF was definitely the culprit. So for future reference anyone with similar issues that find this thread. I suggest the following steps, in order of affordability:   Check your spark plugs for any fouling, replace plugs if they are bad or re adjust the gaps making it narrower (0.8mm would be good). Check every coil's resistance with a multimeter. It can be done by probing the IB and G pins on the coil pack. Resistance should be around 1.4 (+/- 0.1) Ohms Check the MAF. If you have Nissan connect or a good scanner with the 14 adapter it should allow you to see the voltage on the MAF reading should be around 1.1 - 1.2V when car is idling. But if you don't, buy a new MAF from Amazon and test, then return it. (For instance, I got a Chinese one for $40 that was reporting 1.3v on idle). If you still have scanner, you can run tests on the injectors to see if they are working, just remember to unplug the fuel pump fuse/relay and have no pressure on the line. Then listen for the noises that the injectors make. Clean/replace injectors as needed. Once you find the issue and fix, order thousands of dollars worth of OEM parts to refresh unrelated things (Optional)   PS: Thanks to the absolute legends of this forum for the responses and help to someone that went a bit over their head.
