hey all,

currently looking to purchase a new intercooler for my r32. just wanted some feedback...

what is the difference between a tube-fin compared to a bar-plate cooler. what will be the better buy and what would be the prefred intercooler choice - keeping in mind performance etc.

thanks

well tube - fin intercoolers are more free flowing and u will hit boost alot quicker than a bar and plate. but if u goin for big HP i Recommend that u go for bar - plate coolers coz they are made for more cooling than tube - fin.

otherwords if u got a big aftermarket turbo get a bar -plate cooler

if u just want more boost get a tube - fin, boost will come alot quicker

no matter what way you go, you'll get turbo lag...thats the way RB20's are with big front mounts thanks to the plenum chamber going across the top of the engine

i've got a tube fin cooler from modyourcar.com (600x300x76) - it cost me $400 and then got a mate to fit it for me. And that's your biggest cost, the plumbing is a big job and if you don't know a mate than can, or if you can do it yourself, it will get costly if you go through a workshop. The upside is of course the performance and cooling benefits, but also, with the factory cooler out, it makes a nice little cold air box in the space left behind! (see pic)

Couldn't tell you too much about performance differences but don't get too hung up on what type of cooler to choose, for the performance gains you'll get, save the cash for other stuff (ie injectors, fuel pump, FPR, power fc etc etc)

rednut do you have any problems with the air intake being that low when it rains at all???

What routing did you do your piping, the bacj and under, or over top?

Cheers B
