Washing Engine Bay

Hi Guys,

Anyone washed their skyline's engine bay?

I've washed my previous car heaps of times by going to car lovers

pop the hood

spray de-greaser all over engine bay

let it sit

use high pressure hose and spray left-right quickly

spray armourall on plastic bits

that's it...

oh, my previous car had coil packs and Map sensor.

Can I use the same method for my skyline?

I assume I'll have to cover the cone filter to keep the AFM from getting wet and the battery.

Anything else I'd need to cover?

The battery is in the boot so I think you're safe.

I need my bay cleaned as well. Do you keep water away from the BOV and shit?

dude, I have a 34

and yes keep water from BOV otherwise the motor will suck the water in.

by this he means our batteries are in the engine bay, not the boot like a 33

The only things you need to worry about are pods and electrical stuff, cover alarm, pod filter and dont spray directly into areas wher there are lots of electrical plugs.

If your bov vents to atmosphere cover the outlet normal bovs are fine.

Why cover the battery, you will not damage it, trucks have them mounted under the chassis, do you think these are covered properly.

Why not use a bucket of soapy water with a wet chamois and do it slowly... one part at a time... that's the safest way I suppose...

I would prefer to do that.... just a bit slow than using a hose and spray it with water...

cover your alternater too - all electrics, fuse box. Use plastic shopping bags and gaffa tape

i did mine once, filled up the gaps around the spark plugs, bad miss, had to take the cover off, all the coils and get the water out of there, but it gave me a reason to change the plugs.....

kjb_r33, yeah that happened to a mate just 2 weeks ago, was a 4 cylinder but was only running on 3 due to one plug being fully immersed in water! It sounded like a wrx...but his car is really loud!

I killed my Crank angle sensor by de-greasing my engine.

A clean engine bay isnt worth the money to replace damaged sensors or the hasstle of a car that runs with a miss or not at all.

Just be careful and u can do it no worries... just don't go holding the hose on stuff and let everything dry for a few hours on a warm day with the bonnet up. Once you have got most of the gunk off use a damp hand cloth to do the more tricky areas. Worked a treat on my old car.

whats peopples thoughts on using an air gun/compressed air to clean all the sh!t out of the engine bay. Mine's prtetty clean mind you. just don't want dirt and crap flying itno places it shouldn't. I'm assumiong cover up the same areas that woul dbe effectd by the water HEY?

Hehehe no luck Doc ? I think that when they clean that gunk off the tiles, they just fill the thing up with dirty water so it makes dirty steam so it looks like it's working !!

I was told to just use a rag with some degreaser on it with some elbow grease.
