ahhh , youv'e lost me.

I said that if a bolt has gone in , there is nothing your mate will be able to do at your place unless he has valve spring compressor, seat refacing tool and a die grinder so will have to go to a specialist.

Engines can get carbon buildup , especially if they have a poor servicing history or are driven sedately.

Changing things can disturb the carbon or a sudden difference in the driving style can shift it.
