Gearbox Strengths

Hey all im new to this site. I own a 1988 VL calais turbo 5spd and im looking at putting a skyline box in it.

now my question is what is the difference between the r33 turbo box and the r33 na box. what sort of power would each of these hold? any other suggestions of box to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, just a question, but why do you want to change box? was your car turbo originally or did you or a previous owner put the turbo in?

because the vl 5 speed is a pretty tough box.

The 25t box is good for somthing like 700hp as far as i know.

i dropped in the rb30et from another car my m8 smashed but i didnt want the auto so i grabbed the old mf5 i had laying round (mf5=n/a vl) well ive had 2 blow in like 6months i rang a couple of places and they have all told me my car puts out to much grunt for the box and suggested i get a r33 box

NA r33 box is pretty much an rb20 box, which is pretty much a VL n/a box.

A VLt box is a R33 turbo box, just missing a few things. Such as the R33t box has dual syncros, and the vlt has singles, few other small things, other than that they are the same.

Go the R33t box if you have the money, if not VLt box.
