Traffic COPS are ghey!!!

Get their name and badge number and request that the conversation be recorded otherwise you are not even popping the bonnet. You are within your rights to do so.

Another good trick is every time the cop asks you a question. Lift your collar and repeat the question, then answer it like you are reading it out of a book. You will be amazed at the result. You can wave goodbye to the filthy prick as he leaves you alone.

Does anyone have a copy of the curent Australian Design Rules, can you post it somewhere so we can download it! I'm not really keen on paying $30 for a CD from the department of transport. Cheers.

I guess if your not sure get it checked out by the transport dept or police. When they say its fine. Get their name and job title. Then if you have any problems reject the fine in court and produce the facts...

I asked about bov's a while ago... There is nothing written that says a atmo bov is not legal. Some put little filters on their bov's... But truth of the matter is that air brake systems have bov's (trucks/buses). Therefore they would have to be fined also...

I have the name and number of the transport dept officer that said its fine and will use it if i have any trouble. However i must say i have never been pulled over in my skyline (4 years now) and its all about driving attitude.... If you act like a tool you will be treated like a tool 90% of the time. However there are some nasty police officers out there too picking on helpless church goers....

yeah attitude counts big time

i got pulled over in my r32gtr on the M1 with heavy mods, carbon bonnet and roll cage etc. tires looked a little second had, water washers wastn hooked up etc.

talked like a normal good bloke, he was alrright and ended up letting me go.

could of gave me loads of stuff

all about how you talk to them etc etc.

mick

The other question I have though, Is when I was pulled up by the officer he was asking if I had an ATMO Blow of Valve.

And I asked him what if I do and what if I don’t ? And he said they are illegal if you have one, because they are not allowed to vent to the atmosphere.

What I can't work out is how they are illegal as the air they are venting is clean air the turbo has sucked in? Does any one actually know the ruling on this?

I'm no expert but Ther are two ways of looking at if you are a cop:

1) There is nothing in the ADR about atmo venting blow off valves (so I have been told) so they are not specifically illegal.

2) You are not allowed to change the emmision control systems on a car. Changing to an atmo BOV without some compensation programed into the engine managment will certainly change the emissions.

So if I got pulled up with a atmo BOV, I would be arguing the ADR point (with a copy of it in from of me) and I'd hope he does not know about the emissions rules. A copy of the ADRs are a great thing (smoke and mirrors if nothing else) when you are pulled over.

I agree with the posts above - attitude has so much to do with it in the end.

- if your nice to a good cop he probably won't fine you.

- if your a wanker to a good cop he WILL fine you.

- if your a wanker to a wanker of a cop he will fine you

- if your a nice to a wanker of a cop you could be lucky.

Atmo BOVs are illegal because even new turbos release some amounts of oil into the intake. The only true way to make them legal is to filter the air coming out. That is Final.

I understand but compressors on buses and trucks have some oil in their systems too.... So what the difference. They add a valve lub to the air tanks to keep the seals all good....

My ssqv has been on for about 1 year and not a single oil stain on it.... Its clean as a whissle...

I would argue the point.... Also a ferrari M360 has a twin turbo v8 in it... It has atmo bov's.... From factory....

Ok so what your saying is if a turbo releases a small amount of oil, and the blow of valve goes off and sprays a bit,

What’s the difference between not having one and the motor burning the oil and throwing it out the exhaust?

from my understanding an atmospheric B.O.V releases unfiltered gases into the atmosphere, where as a plumb back B.O.V system puts in back into the motor to be despensed through the exhaust hence being filtered through the catalyic converter. is this correct??

Well theoretically no, as they aren’t gasses.

In the basics of a turbo car, Air is sucked into the turbo via a pod filter pushed along the piping though to an intercooler and then into the motor.

When the throttle body closes the clean air that has just been filtered that’s traveling along the cooler piping hits the closed throttle body, and vents out via a blow of valve. Air that hasen't entered the motor yet, So realistically its actually cleaner air then what when into the motor to start off with as it was filtered at pod level and then compressed via the turbo.

so once the throttle body close the excess air has nowhere to go except back into the intercooler and back towards the airpod, but having a blowoff valve gives it sumwhere to go instead of back the way it was bought into the engine via the airpod/intercooler. therefore it releases it back another way into the engine once the throttle body is closedvia the plumb back system.

How about just accepting the fact that atmo bov's ARE illegal and that 3LIT3 FORS3 is right in what he is saying. Also, it does have alot to do with you attitude when pulled over, dont be a f*kwit and you'll be fine. If you get a wanker do as mentioned above, repeat the question asked, then answer without any bullshit attached and ask for his/her little pocket tape recorder to be turned on, also get their full details. I have never even been pulled over once in the 3 years i've owned my modified R33 because i dont drive like a dickhead and hang out at bloody maccas or the BWCP, i really dont understand what the attraction is to these places. Get a life.

You can still filter an atmo BOV and have it passed by DOT

I have.

wrapping filter foam (clark rubber) around your atmo is serving exactly the same purpose as plumbing it back.

And what RB25 is saying is right. I am only a smart arse once I know the arsehole is writing a ticket. I have probably more defects than all you guys. I just don't hang out in Hoon Town with a big sign on me saying "gimme a chance to be a smart arse".
