Got My 34...and Need Xenons

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I got my R34 on road 2 days ago and it looks wicked, esp after i changed the rims. The main gripe i have is they took out the Xenons for compliance and id really like to get some form of HID or Xenons put back in. I dont need the whole assembly, just the globes i think.

But what i want to know is if like autobarn or somewhere sells Xenon kits? ive heard official Nissans are like 2k. And if i get these put on, are they massive cop magnets? Id like to cut down on my routine checks in the 34. I just want to keep it all mostly legal and non defectable lol.

Any info would help

Just read through the Aug copy of Vic-Spec Newsletterm theres a very noice members offer from Phillips in there.

Become a SAU Vic member for under $100 and save another $700+ on your Xenons :O

If that aint incentive i dunno what is.

Well big company like Phillips would of course go through all ADR requirements before marketing their kit in Australia. They've got the financial capacity to go through it and it is passed onto consumers through it's higher price xenon kits.

Most imported ones made by some overseas "drift" garage or chinese/taiwanese made won't even bother to go through ADR testing process cos their selling price would become the same with Phillips or even cost more (no mass production capacity compared to large company) and who would wanna buy their brand if you've got Phillips at the same price....

Spot on rs73.....According to ADRs the headlights have to produce a particular 'shape' of light out the front of the vehicle. The phillips one ia the only one of the kits out there that produces this shape and is therefore legal in Oz.

oh nice :). wait, i have one more question. for HID xenons to be ADR compliant, doesnt it need the headlight washers aswell ? so phillips includes the washer ?

when will the group buy take place ? coz i might be interested in a kit.

sorry for the stupid questions.

ADR says xenons need to be self-leveling and have washers... for OEM.

The Philips product is legal to fit and use as an aftermarket kit.

That said - Golgo has the factory projector xenons installed (no washers or levelers) - and no-one has ever once mentioned anything about it. Was fine for RWC and Police RW inspections.

The details for the member offer is in the latest Vic-spec newsletter. The offer is currently for R33 series cars only.

Email me if you are interested in more detail on the Philips kits - and I'll put you in contact with David Clerk - their sales manager for automotive lighting.

what's cheap? i got the Kaixen ones for bout $390 i think? but i have a feeling they're going to be blue as all hell as i got 8500K globes :)

box says "for off road use only" as well :P - yet to see how.... ah... powerful they are :)

I got the factory xenons in mine... no trouble from anyone yet. Saying that though, some of the european luxury cars have xenons that are much brighter than mine so I don't know what the go is there.

Could be a dumb thought, but since the R34 headlight housing is plastic... would a 8500k bulb be too hot and possibly melt it? My factory xenons generate a bit of heat already and they are nowhere near 8500k

I have the factory nissan r34 xenons in mine... but my car was complianced before the import rules changed. the headlight level can be adjusted to 4 different levels via a switch inside the cabin. they also make a faint buzzing sound when they are on if you put your ear near the headlight where the transformer box is underneath the headlight.

Dan: $390 sounds like globe prices.

The xenons need the ballast pack - which is where most of the money is.

Replacement Xenon bulbs for Golgo were about $300. That's cheap.

Honda quote about $700 per bulb only for the Accord Euro.

Michael (BOS Importing) has good prices :(

I'll take pics soon, but i've got ballast and globes. Full kit. 8500k globes.

I've still got the OEM Xenon assembly, so i hope they're up to the task of the 8.5k globes :)

i can BYOBB them down to the BBBQ if anyone is interested?

Korean made, the boxes look stylish at least :) not sure how they go but someone else in this thread they got the Kaixens as well. Not sure how they stack up against the Philipps.

Peeps can someone give me more info about the Philips kits, which kits they are / to what extent is it legal / etc?

I would definitely consider a HID kit if it's ADR compliant..I like light :P

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
