We are going to be there found around 2 weeks from the 13th on... we are staying in the Shiba Park hotel for the first 3 nights then where ever the action takes us after that..

checking out some workshops, watching some drifting and plenty of drinking is high on our list of priorities.

Does anyone have any idea how much a prepaid mobile would be over there? Is it worth it or should I not bother?

i think 1 day is plenty. Last year I was there just for one morning. I guess it depends how many photos you want to take... waiting for people to get out of the way who are waiting for others who are waiting for others to get out of the way to take a photo of what you want to take a photo of can take a while...

on another note did anyone go to the awesome dog show at makuhari late last year ? :(

Thats pretty hard to believe. We spent all day and only got through half of it.

Pre-paid mobiles are cheap like the Tuka brands (mainly bought fr 7-11s) but i think they are trying to persuade not to buy anymore pre-paids. As a tourist, you wouldnt be able to buy a mobile phone anyway.

If youre on 3 or Vodaphone, you will get roaming facility now, just started this year coz i was surprised that my phone for the first time in 5 years actually received signal, although not everywhere.

Cheers

don't know about that mate. I am with vodafone and in january there was no roaming. in fact i though that japan was CDMA network?

also i don't know why you say:

"As a tourist, you wouldnt be able to buy a mobile phone anyway."

not true, we bought one last time we were there.

There will still be shops that sells pre-paid phones and even that you really need a local to sign it for you but sometimes not. You cant buy a "line" phone as you dont have any evidence that you will be staying for more than 3 months (like Bank details..etc)

In regards to the Aussie phone, i have been to Japan in January, March, April, July and October and i usually stay there anywhere form 2 to 4 weeks have been using my "3" phone as back up next to my Jap phone.

Like i said, depending on where you are, i am always in the Tsurumi, Yokohama area. Its home to me as i used to work there and being a Trader, i go there to buy parts/cars/trucks..etc - my phone is my life, therefore, my 3 phone works fine - getting the Vodafone 3G signal.

Cheers

ahh, 3 phone. that explains it. I just have a regular tri-band GSM phone (SEW800 on aus vodafone).

yeah i don't know much about the permanent phones but pre-paids are not hard to buy in and around tokyo, it just take half an hour or so to get through the paper work.

Yeah, they do stuff you around for a while. My line phone was worse, made me wait half a day, just like going to see a GP there, a maze.

Anyway, its the first time i'm going to the Salon without the family, more freedom. So, if any of you guys are gonna be there, lets meet up. Can call me on:

Talej, im staying in the same hotel over the autosalon weekend.

Cool. We should definately try to organise meeting up in the morning before we head off to the exhibition centre or something. It turns out that the Shiba Park hotel is further away from it than I thought but oh well...

Will everybody still be able to jump on the net while they are over there? I am pretty sure we will...

Talej, how far away is it??

Shiba Park Hotel is a long way from MAKUHARI MESSE.It takes over

an hour to get there from Shiba Park Hotel.Ca 1 hour and 30 min.

A bit off topic....

I stayed there for the TAS05.In my opinon Shiba Park hotel is not very

good either.Expensive(internet was 10min for 1000yen) and staff were not always very helpful. If you asked about anything else then tourist stuff.......helping you find workshops etc they offered very little assistance.

Rooms were ok,but at the price you pay they could be better.

It`s not the best place to stay if you`re going for TAS,streetracing, workshops etc.

I would have found something a bit closer.

If you guys want the tip, we were able to get free internet access via a tonne of wireless hotspots that were visible from our hotel due to the communications building over the road.

If you want good accomodation at the right price, 10 mins to TAS, a walk to Upgrage and 15 mins from Crystal and Top Secret, try this place.

    • Great info @tidi0x  Will definitely be handy for others and maybe me if I decide to keep the shit box H pattern.
    • Bumping this up one last time.... I wanted to follow up on the clutch slave issue. I realized that what the issue comes down to is the pocket is flat milled, and the cylinder does not want rest flat. So in order to mount it correctly you will need to make a spacer for the fingers so the cylinder is floating. I took two plates of aluminum, drilled some holes and was good. I did still need to make the relief cuts in the bell housing, as even with the spacer the bleed section still interferes. The OE bell housing the mounting holes are raised from the housing.
    • If the event in USA goes ahead will be interesting as it seems the rules will get more cars over here. Apparently the track is laguna seca too. Yeah s15, if I get a the lower dash trims, centre console and change front cross member to standard LCA position will fit clubsprint. See how rules are as i would rather do complete widebody than a bolt on flare to run the 295 with proper clearance.
    • If the car is legal height I can't see it being an issue. Found a thread on reddit that might offer some insight.   I got a ticket from a copper in QLD for my S15 being too low. They had this wheel thing on a stick that they put under the car and it hit my exhaust. Anyhow went to an exhaust shop to get the exhaust tucked up/hung a little higher and I wound the coilovers up a smidge. Don't think I even had to go back to the police station unlike when I got defected for having a carbon bonnet when I brought the S15 from the ACT to QLD and had to replace it and then rock up at a police station and have a yougish female officer who knew nothing about cars confirm that I had changed bonnets. Should have just painted the carbon bonnet yellow to match the rest of the car lol
    • Id like to race in the US i think alot of those track would suit me   For the s15? Youd be stuck between club sprint and the new Open Am wouldnt you depending on how much interior you have left in
