This entry is to be held with out prejudice.

I was caught doing 31 & 35 in a 60 zone. Once early in the morning like you. The officers both times booked me for 15 over and I paid the fine. I was not happy I got fined, but my ongoing gripe about the low speed limits and poor driver education was not a grounds for defence.

When I got fined I was the proud owner of a 1999 Celica SX-R, and both times I got fined I was asked 101 questions, they checked out the car, they asked me several times who owned the car, they did license and rego checks. I dont mind that they think i stole it.. Cos if someone did and they cops pulled him over in it I would want them to catch him.

I asked how many points I would lose, he answered with a speil about how i can get an extension on the payment. I asked again how many points, he told me again about the payment extension.. I finally got the points out of him.

It was kinda weird..

At least they where nice to you, you could have gotten worse.

NOW!!!

Find out if they are permitted to give you a fine like that, I was told by a reliable source that officers need to have special training in speed assesment. If they where out of line then contest it. The reason I say contest it is for the sole reason of keeping them honest! If there is no one to police the police, then we are in big trouble.

Aiii

Reds14T you should pay this ticket and just put th incident behind you. i was also booked by a highway patrol car doing 91 in a 60 zone during the day. I did it all gave him the reason, and a huge sob story... he ended up letting me off just like you with a 15 and over ticket, 3 points and $188 fine, but unlike you i only had 1 point... You should learn from this and be thankful u ran into a good cop who actually cares and is not totally stuck up with writing tickets and booking people...

I agree with everyones feedback, but what all this comes down to is they guess-timated my speed from a distance of 200m without radar using their speedo.

These were general duties officers which could have estimated my speed incorrectly. At no time have i admitted doing 31 over, if i was it would be surprising. I'd think i was about 15-20 over at most.

I am not nitpicking this fine, i believe without radar evidence or a nearby vehicle judging my speed it cannot be justified. Remember they were at best 200m behind me, thats half a 1/4 mile!

My job relies on me being on the road up to 10hrs a day, up to 6 days a week. I probably travel 3 times more than the average person. Driving on 1 point is a huge gamble on my employment.

Sorry for dragging this on guys, i appreciate all your feedback, as is why i posted here in the first place.

All is not bad though, maybe it won't hit the mailbox :D

Cheers!

Anyone ever received a fine for the speed that the cop claimed? All of mine were the same as the above stories

"We caught you doing x over the speed limit, but we'll only fine you for x -15 instead".

I think there could be a long term rort happening there to stop ppl contesting / scare ppl.

All you Sydney boys (and girls) should feel pretty lucky; The Line in Melbourne is basically zero tollerance...

My mate lost his licence straight out after being pulled over by a divvy van. He was doing 98 in a 60, which he knew he shouldn't have been, but the cops gave him a hard time, generally adding to the trauma.

Be thankful that they weren't pricks about it!

hehe just pay the fine its all good.. i was cought doing 145 in a 80 zone in a camry.. u think they give some slack on the car u drive.. a month later my licence was suppended for 3 months.. no biggy.. just pay fine and copped it.. it tought me a lesson or 2.. with a $1400 fine.. hahha.. oh well all is not lost.. the cops that pulled me over was nice too.. jsut ask why i was going that fast.. and that was it.. got my licence and gave me the ticket..

oh well.. better luck next time..

hah u could always flea the country.. =)

Regardless of weither you get the ticket or not, I'd suggest not driving hard for a while... we all do it, especially at 1am, but if you're worried about 1 point, it's simple: Don't speed. Nothing is causing you to speed except yourself.

I know it's hard not to, I got a 92 over 70 ticket on New Years Eve, 20 minutes after midnight and we all own performance cares, so I sympathise, but if you're worried about that last point, again, don't speed.

If you do get a ticket, don't fight it, there's no point. Radar systems have logs, and as was stated before, police travel in pairs for witnessing these things, not just so one can fire blindly and the other can run for the donuts.

Take the fine like a man and ease up on the right pedal for a while...

Yep I have been pulled over at 2:00am by an unmarked detective car for speeding. They had no way of telling how fast I was going being a detective camry but they were going fast enough trying to catch me to tell that I was speeding so they took my details and sent the fine latter in the mail. I think they went easy because I stopped when I could have easily got away they were so far behind me. I paid it and copped my one month suspension because I got off lightly for the speed I was doing and learnt my lesson!

Yeah they started from the same set of lights as me and I had thought it was another car that I passed before but the detective car had come out of the servo! I took off with them behind me and by the time they had put on their siren at around 140 the cop tells me I was about 25 car lengths away (no Joke!), I could have just turned up the street and gotten away but I stopped and took it. They were good coppers but still sent me the fine/suspension in the mail for over 30km/h.

i had a similar incident, i passed an off-duty police officer(in his own car) at 160km/h in a 70 zone(following a rx-7 series 6 which was going alot faster). The police officer had no time to even try to catch up with me or "estimate" my speed, so he took down my lisence and visited me the next day. When i asked to see the speed reading from the night before, he became quite enraged and jumped back into his squad car and drove off. he vowed to take me to court for dangerous driving etc.. and said he would one day get me but nothing ever came of it., so i am under the impression that they need to show you a speed reading to actually fine you otherwise they could be making it up and overcharging you

What i am confused about is why wouldn't he write the ticket then and there? You already get 28 days to pay. At no point did he write anything down on paper, and they seemed to be alittle sympathetic due to my acting skills.

if i was you id shut the hell up!!!! :D you are a lucky bastard do you know what its like to lose ur license for 1 month, the 1 month isnt that bad but trying to get insurance next time around is hell i was paying throw my arse for mine after my suspension.

sorry thats my 2 cents, :D:(

I think the Cops were pretty nice to you, and I would leave it at that. The point is you were doing something wrong and know will have to pay for it, if you try and outwitt the system it will come back and bight you on the ass, it would be like poking a sleeping Rottwieler with a big stick, soon it will awake and grab you.
