Hiya all,

I've done a search hoping I might find the answer to to my problem but haven't had any luck.

I have a R32 GTS-T (non M-spec), that I have decided will get the bigger M-Spec brakes, I have my new discs, calipers and brake lines ready to be put on.

The car already has factory 5 stud hubs, so I thought the conversion would be a simple bolt up job, but this doesn't seem to be the case. After pulling the front brakes off changing the disc over and bolting the new 4 pot caliper into place every thing seemed to be ok until the wheel went on and then it wouldn't turn . The wheel is clearing the caliper so I know thats not the problem, I'm kinda wondering if the hub might be the problem???

Has any one converted their non m-spec R32 GTS-T brakes to the bigger M-Spec ones?

what problems did you have and how did you get around them?

Do I need to get different hubs to do this conversion, or am I just missing something simple?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

The brake rotor and caliper aren't the right offset for the hub assembly you have bolted them to. It sounds like the rotor is hitting the caliper, it might spin without the wheel on but once you pull the rotor up solid it hits the caliper or maybe even some of the suspension components. Try bolting the rotor hard up against the hub without the wheel (use the wheel nuts up against the rotor, you may need washers to get the depth) that way you can see what's hitting.

read my tutorial in the tutorial section..explains everything..

great pix are gone again.. sigh.. f**king sick of uploading my photos every 5 minutes this server is changed..

Thanks for the replys, much appreciated,

Predator, thanks for the Tutorial very informative :)

Funny enough the way it had been written down was prety much the way I tried to fit the bigger brakes, it was when the wheel nuts went on that the wheel wouldn't turn, I'll have a good look tomorrow and see if I can see the problem.

lol, and yes I did remove the bracelet, so I know thats not the problem.

Thanks

try bashing out the stone guard.. depending on the discs it might be rubbing/pressing on the disc stopping it from turning.

I think you'll work it out, the only difference really is the actual lines.

Yep it was the stone guard that was stopping the wheel from turning, I attacked it with a hammer and a set of pliers and it did the trick. then every thing bolted up nicely. :(

Found out that the set of calipers I got were from a N/A 300zx they have slightly smaller discs and smaller calipers, than the Type-M's. It has worked out very well we can still use our old mags :) , didn't think we would be able to.

Now for the back brakes the factory discs are heaps smaller than the new two pot ones I have. Umm the factory stone guard is a problem I have bashed the living snot out of it and still it's not playing nice :) . How did you get around the smaller stone guard problem and get the bigger rear discs to fit?

Havent done the rears yet so wouldn't know on that :).. seems to stop quite well now though with decent pads on the rear, and just the 4 pots front.

Later on will probably go for R33 or GTR for rear (for the larger discs).. or maybe all round.

Hmmm, did only putting the 4 pot on the front up set the brake bias, or didn't it make any difference what so ever?

My boyfreind thought he would help out with the rear brakes, well they are on and every thing seems to be sweet as, but he totally wasted the rear dust shield. :) . I guess now I got to find out if a dust shield effects compliance chances, If it does I gota get a new one :)

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
