Whassup dudes

I made some of these so I had real white light not piss yellow lighting for my car. So I decided to make a quick guide for all the peoples that want white light for their cars!

What ever lights you want to replace you will need bulbs that fit that type of socket. This will work for all low voltage applications that are 12V in cars. Interior lights, numberplate lights, parkers, festoons ect

. You will need:

your old globes you want to replace

LEDs: CAT. NO. ZD0194 they are like $2 each.

Resistors part number: RR0559 they are about $2 for eight.

Solder

Soldering iron

Pliers

Wire cutters

1. Cut the positive side of the LED 5mm from the base. Cut a resistor 5mm from the resistor base.

2. Solder the 2 together with the short sides overlapping

3. Test the LED with a 12V DC power supply to make sure it works

4. Take your old light globe and carefully break the glass by squeezing it with the pliers, remove all the shards of glass and remove the filament between the 2 wires in the globe

5. You need to solder the LED/RESISTOR assembly to the inside wires of the light globe. This is a fiddly job and you will need to tin the joints to make it easier.

6. The LED/RESISTOR needs have the correct polarity to work. But every globe is different so if you solder it one way and it doesn’t work then you have got it backwards!

Once you have made one put it in the socket and see how it goes!

Follow the step by step photos if you get stuck. The results are awsome!

A quick note from the land of fireworks, porn (and pathetic pollies) -

You can now buy 'wide angle' LEDs. The light isn't as directional as normal LEDs. Not sure if Jaycar have them, but LEDSales do.

You can also buy bulbs already set up with the LEDs set in the correct plug. Not sure where from, but I've seen them on eBay.

Hey Nic can you convert the rear of my ceffy to look like the current model statemen rear?

I have some High quality cardboard and some slightly used gaffa tepe and a photo of a statesman rear.

I know where your car is parked. I will do it when you are not there and call it my cristmas present to you.

note for longevity of LED's might be helped with a bit higher resistor value. i think most are specified for about 20ma, but at 12V with the 300ohm the led is getting 30ma (and upwards when can running).

470ohm resistor might be a bit better

12V with a 300Ohm resistor is closer to 40mA. Jaycar sell the Bulb fittings seperately so you can add the LED's of your choosing but they are pretty expensive. RS components sell Complete LED lighting replacements for incandecsant lighting in cars (except of course your mainbeams)

Example. As far as the LED's focused light, I've seen a couple of tricks used by people to disperse the light more evenly, lightly sanding the exterior of the led with some garnet paper seems to work alright and also filing the top of the dome of the LED package so that it is flat or concave will work fairly well too. Also if buying White or blue LED's from jaycar especially, get them all at one time and test them at the store if possible (most Jaycar stores Ive been to have a small LED tester) because different batches from different manufacturers can be a quite noticably different color.

im pretty sure they had replacement globes for other things (like the ones ur trying to make in this thread) so might be worth to check out before trying the diy way

      But there's the archetype for the name plate! Here's my view on that stupid TÜV ruleset. Buy a brand name aftermarket piece of equipment. In this case, the Mines front pipe we're talking about. Get it TÜV certified on the car. Damage the underside of it, say on a speed bump. Cut out the damaged section, replace with fresh metal. (For the sake of the argument only), continue doing that to the whole pipe until it is all gone, replaced with new metal. Is this grandfather's axe still the same front pipe? The design hasn't changed (much). The pipe walls are in the same places. The flanges are in the same places. It is functionally identical. How does this differ from a pipe that is ever so slightly different in fabrication (ie the number of welds in it, a few mm here and there in terms of where the pipes run, are joined, etc)? Anyone with 0.5% of a brain can see that there is absolutely no way that the performance (power, environmental aspects, noise, etc etc) of it can be any different than the genuine Mines pipe. Maybe even Mines made 2 versions of this design, with the same differences. How would anyone (say a TÜV inspector) ever be able to differentiate between them? And yet, they are so bloody anally retentive about this stuff. Mad. How upset would they be if you had the wrong spring washers on the flanges?

      After a fairly extensive search using Japanese terms and checking Minkara etc, I couldn't find anything even close to your front pipe in the photos. I'm no expert but the two pipes merge really close to the flange connected to the catalytic converter which is rather unique from what I've seen, which makes me think it's more than likely a custom front pipe. The welds and 'more pipe sections than usual for a brand name pipe' makes it seem like a custom one.  Here's some photos of an old Mine's front pipe. You can see that it's just 4 pipe sections as opposed to 6, and arguably looks more like a 'production' front pipe:
