I'm really curious as to why these horsepowerinabox/gcg style gt30's don't run the 6blade gt30 core with the .6 comp cover.

I'm thinking possibly GCG ran in to surge issues with the higher flowing 6blade gt30 comp?!?

I'm remembering back to GCG's 500hp bolt ons and the surge issues they had?!?

this isn't a horsepowerinaboxturbo.

I got the VG30 ex housing second hand, and the Garret GT30 compressor and core from a local shop here.

FInally got the idle sorted out..

Stupidest mistake - We didn't firmly press on the plug that runs the little stepper motor on the plenum that adjusts the idle. Once in, still very rough idle so I gave her a heap more fuel on that load point, and now its idling nicely.

Anything above 4500rpm is death on this current tune, and it knocks its ass off.

so, I've set the rev limiter, and are waiting for my injectors to arrive so I can get them installed and get the car tuned to a safe level. Its drivable though, but only slow.

And even at 7psi, it hits pretty hard when it comes on.

I'll have to run in this turbo though. My tuner said to get some km's up on it.

With regards to the turbine housing size of the vg30.

I've been speaking to ATS here in Adelaide, he said there are no documented specs on the RB20/25DET and VG30DET turbine housing. He has measured up the VG30DET turbine housing and said it is some where around the .72 size.

The RB25det turbine housing on the other hand is a .6 something, not a .4 like some of us believe.

If he is right or not is another thing. :)

That would be news to alot of reputable tuners.

I really need the power excel software and cable for my power FC :P I feel sorry for my tuner having to use that bloody hand controller. It really is a pain in the ass to use, going back and forth between the map tracer and maps

I'm tempted to get a link... But we went to all the trouble to install the q45 afm..

Cubes , actually less blades means less likely to surge at lower engine rpm . Its the less load factor on the turbine that helps it get up to productive speed given the same exhaust gas flow . The GT compressor is designed to work over a wider speed range and its top end airflow is a little better (and cooler) than the T04S . Some feel that the plumbing size out of those T04S covers is a little large at 2.5" for a 76mm compressor wheel be it GT37 or T04S , I reckon if the power can be had with conservative pipe sizes why not . The XR6T uses an E cover with 2" outlet for 240-270 Kw though it is a low boost aplication .

We shall see , best of luck Mr Mafia

cheers A .

I'm pretty surei ts a full face, got no idea on the brand. My tuner says that if it came down to the bottom line, it would be this one or a Jim Berry clutch.

The only difference is that this one has a different center than what jim uses (I think jim uses your own or a rb26 center)

anyway, my tuner has put these clutches in 300rwkw Commodores etc and hasn't had any problems at all with them, so I should be safe. I want the car to be very streetable, but aggressive, and this seemed to be the perfect clutch. I didn't need a amazing super heavy duty shiny extreme performace brand named clutch... Just a built one that was proven. :D

I am going to try and get one of my mates to tidy the tune up this weekend for me so its a little more drivable, as he's got a sniffer, and knows the powerfc very very well. Built and Tuned his own GTR.

The only issue I've found with organic clutches is they tend to heat up from clutch riding launches launches.

So... Don't ride it when launching. :D

I used to get off the line super quick, click second to have it slipping due to overheating the clutch on the launch.

Not that you should be riding a ceramic clutch. At the moment I find I don't have to ride the clutch due to the 3ltr.

yeah, and I lose all my tuning ($500 worth)

I just spoke to my tuner and he said that I may have fried the little stepper motor that controls the idle, so I am going to pull it off tonight and see if it moves. If it appears to be working properly, I am going to grab a laptop and map out the ignition and injector maps on an excell spreadsheet, and reset the power FC and do the idle learning.

My tuner (he is a pretty good mate too, mates with my fabricator friend lol..small town) said not to lose the current tune as it will be a good starting point. I really hope I can get some good power out of my motor. Torque mainly. He did say it was a bit of a freak to be a 1996 and have 169psi accross all cylinders and only 2% leakdown, and should go well.

Must be the oil and tune hey? I run Shell Helix 5w40 Fully Synthetic, and change it every 5,000 kms.

:P

Myself and Ashton (fabricator friend) are gonig to change the clutch on saturday. My tuner is giving me a RB25 Flywheel to get machined, so that I can put it in and give him my flywheel to swap (cause we won't be able to get it machined on a saturday)

anyway, its looking good.

Checked Nengun, the injectors won't leave Japan till the 9th of october.. must be a shortage  :P oh well, plenty of time eh  ;)

I will keep this thread updated. Oh and if anyone has any tips, you are more than welcome to share them.

And I again say thanks to Paulr33, he's a value to the SAU community. If you own a Skyline, definately go and have a look at his site (in his sig)

The project has only begun.

Make sure you get NEW O rings and other ancilliries for the Injectors from Nissan before you start the Injector upgrade, because they are not supplied.

Ken

got a rough tune from my mate that has a sniffer. He sat as a passenger, grabbed the hand controller and went to work. Very intelligent guy.

Got it back to around 200rwkw with 7psi of boost.

Need those injectors for a worth while tune!

INASNT im in noway saying the sard 550's are direct replacement, far from it i reckon, needing the damn collars. I was referring to if he got some nismo sort which are from what ive heard supposed to be a real direct replacement injector. If so, then they might not supply new o rings with them, but require you to get a new set or reuse the old ones from the std injectors.
