I was having problems with my coils in that they were breaking down under load whether from cracks in the casing of the coils or just coils on the way out so I called around to get pricing for new coils

Nissan New standard coils $1200.00 a set

Splitfires $600.00 a set

or the option I chose 6 X MEC717 Bosch coils $250.00 and Leads $50.00

here are some pictures it still utilises the standard ignitor.

My friend is responsible for the wiring up of them (Auto Electrician)

this was very easy to do and fit.

and it has performed faultlessly since fitting

  • 2 weeks later...

i have seen this set up on one of the skylines in the HPR mags and they said it worked good but only if you change the leads very often

but i cant see why that is?

and yes please give detaila on the wireing set up would love to see how he set it up!

Sorry peoples I cannot be any help with a wiring diagram but as you can see from the photos we used the standard ignitor and just had to find the negative and positive from the orginal plugs for the coil packs and then connect them to the Bosch Coils.

Since fitting the coils I have had no problems with Leads they have been fine.

I have also Dyno tested the car since fitting the coils and there has been no loss of power at all so I have yet to find a negative side to the fitment of the coils.

also a added bonus is that if at a later date a MSD is required for additional spark it can be wired in with these coils for BIG boost.

Some of the guys in Qld have been playing with a similar concept but using the redundant spark twin outlet setup as on V6 commo's.

Still looks good and damn good price. A set of quality Eagle leads shouls last a long time at around $80 for the set if the current ones start to have issues.

Wiring this should be fairly easy if you think about it.

the motor is a series 1 RB25

coils from Conventry Auto's Smithfield (SYD)

but you can source them from any auto1, Autobarn etc

Bosch MEC717 coils

Leads cost $50.00 for the set from Auto1

Satanic, my mate and I put everything together so no website or number

yeah man we love the stuff but we just dont know how to wire it all up

what im saying is that if your mate can draw something i would be happy to pay for him to do it so many people can do the same as you and get the good result!

I agree with let me drive, i would love this set up.

Can satanic draw something up.

I have looked at other coil packs ie.GDZ1LA coil packs.

But there is a bit of messing about to get one of these to go on a seris 1(re-wiring of ignitor to an r32 ignitor).

Where as this set up looks reasonably straight forward.

If you guys worked it out you should be able to draw it?

the wire diagram for the whole set up

even a rough drawing of what you did which wire to where or even get a lot more photos and then we might be able to work out whats going on in the wireing. thanks

    • First time visitor and currently getting ready to start work on my HK Premier.  Its all stock, 186 with 3 on the tree.  The only mod i have right now is extractors.  I am hoping to get some guidance on slightly modifying the engine to bring a little more power. Just going for a nice, comfortable cruiser.  The car is very straight, however i have been out of the country for 20 years and its been gathering dust at a family farm.  Will be doing quite a bit of body work to cut out some small rust areas (frnt quarter panels and a few other small bits) and fix up the paint.  Will be redoing the interior (its currently black and the seats are in real need of recovering and respringing the driver side (its front bench seat).  The dash needs a little TLC, but no real damage.  As my heater has degraded I am considering fitting something after-market that will be both heater/AC (recommendations here are always welcome). Wanting something discrete that will allow me to use the same controls and not be obvious once inside the car.   For the engine, i have been told i could consider upgrading my cam (imagine i would need a new head as well) and putting a new carby (currently the original stromberg).  However not sure what is going to be the best route.  Would certainly welcome any comments/suggestions.  As  a final step I am looking at changing the wheels. Current hubcaps are in dire need of refurbishment or replacement (imagine its a bit like hens teeth).  Thinking of some clean/classic looking mags (7-inch should be more than enough - not going for a large change in look).  Welcome any comments/advice and of course any questions.
    • I got the ARC M079 due to the space constraint.  Been running mint for the last 3 years.  Plazmaman also seems like a really solid choice but not used myself.    Hunt around for a better price but this is what I have - https://www.rhdjapan.com/arc-brazing-intercooler-smic-m079-bnr32.html
    • Wanted to follow up on this. Did you end up getting the M073? Still deciding on what to get between nismo m073-79 and plazaman.
