Mine:

* Final Fanasy 7: most involving and memorable rpg ever and arguably the best game on PS1. I've played the game 3 times (roughly 60 hrs each!! sad I know) And it's still the only rpg that I wouldn't mind start playing all over again.

* Metal Gear Solid: this game pretty much pushed the console to its limit and from what I could remember most magazines and websites around the world have vote for it as the best game for PS1.

* Xenogear: another Square game like FF7 but this game wasn't released locally so the only way to play it is with the US version. Very nice sprite & 3D graphics, deep story line and was actually considered controversial since it made reference to religions. However I wouldn't play through the game again coz it involves something like 30 hrs of text reading . . .

* Ridge Racer Type 4, Ace Combat 3 & Tekken 3: Why those 3 games together? Simple! They are all from Namco & anything Namco touchs will turn into gold!! Tekken 3 needs no introduction coz it was one of the most popular games in arcade back then, had countless hours just learning all characters' moves. Ridge Racer 4 & Ace Combat 3 I would personally say have the most efficient program codes in them! You feel like playing cartridge games rather than typical loading screen plagued PS1 titles. Forget Gran Tourismo 2, RR4 is the best looking racer in PS1.

* Resident Evil & Silent Hill: 2 of the best survival horrors out there. RE will make you wee in pants with shocking moments (the infamous dogs jump out of window scene) while Silent Hill is just distrubingly creepy (so many nightmares just from playing this game!!) You don't want to play these games with the lights off! Trust me.

*Gran Tourismo 2: didn't like the graphic but since I'm posting on this forum better get it mentioned before getting flamed :P

Also few other games that deserve the runner up :) :

* Vagrant Story: the very strict Famicom magazine in Japan gave it 10/10. I like the graphic but not too impress with the gameplay and story.

* Dino Crisis: Felt like playing a Jurassic Park game with excellent graphic but game play too similar to Resident Evil.

* Pro Evolution Soccer (?) not sure about the name but it was the best soccer game on PSX, yes much better than the ice-skating FIFA series

* Street Figher Alpha 1 & 2: 2D sprite goodness & Street Figher EX 1 & 2: super combo madness!!!

Well thats all the list for now, I probably have missed a few but since they are not that memorable thats why they couldn't make it here :)

So many good old times, starting to miss my little grey box now . . .

To stick with the format you got going there....

* Colin Mcrae Rally: this had to be buy far the most realistic rally game at the time... bloody brilliant....

*as mentioned before Gran Turismo 1 & 2: "the real driving simulator"... although that title is arguable... it's got my vote as the two most defining and just plain ol' fun games of PS1.

*Demolition Derby: can you have anymore fun in a car??? mayheme and chaos smashing cars in a dib ring.... countless hours of fun

*Gran theft Auto 1 & 2: although it had really poxy graphics with a top down view... boy was it fun getting chased by police and starting gang warfare just for the hell of it....

I also miss my lil old ps1... the fun we had together ........

Some of the games that have been mentioned before

Demolition Derby-was one of the first ps1 games I got and was so much fun.

Colin Mcrae Rally

The Silent Hill Series

Dino Crisis

Grand Theft Auto

Metal Gear Solid

and a few more of that havent been mentioned yet

Tomb Raider

Parasite Eve 2 - the only RPG I could ever get into.

Return Fire - Not all that great in the graphics department, but the fun that could be had laying waste to an opponents base with tanks helicopters and APC's to a soundtrack of classical music was memorable

Tenchu

and Syphon Filter.

Final Fantasy 7 definetely, played it through more times than any of the other FF's. FF8 and 9 were still good as well.

Silent Hill was awesome, I actually enjoyed it more than the Resident Evil series.

I thought Ape Escape was really fun too! Some really funny moments watching the monkeys go about their business (monkeys doing tai chi!)

Street Fighter Alpha 3, especially the mode that lets you level up your characters and assign special abilities to them.

Soul Reaver: Excellent story and voice talent, awesome graphics! Still a huuuge fan of this series.

Wipeout 2097 and Wip3out: awesome, twitch induced game play and pumping soundtracks!

What about the worst PSone games? I'm still having night terrors from playing Simpsons Wrestling! That game was made from the bones of still born babies! Pure evil!

"Games don't affect people. If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching on pills and listening to repetitive music."

(Well Simpsons Wrestling affected me!)

final fantasy 7 as everyone has already said, cant go wrong with figures

final fantasy 8 was aight, never got totally hooked into it tho

I loved the tekken games, so much endless fun, gets boring after awhile tho

resident evils were awesome, only played 1 & 3 ... what happened to no. 2 ? :s

cant remember some of the other ones ... meh

tekken

tony hawk, the first 1 was mad

VR baseball was a mad game

ummm ive still got a heap of em downstairs, just cant think of em!

anyone got the atari classics on ps1? thats the maddest game package!!!!!! love it

Courier Crisis - Where your a courier on a bike, and u bash ppl and shit, lol, good times.

lol, just got flashbacks hahaha, that game was sweet!!!!

My fav games from ps1 are Resident Evil, Tenchu, Tony Hawk, GTA, Gran Turismo & Syphon Filter. Resident Evil is the best game ever made in my opinion, for what they had to work with & they made such a good game. The part where you return to the mansion & there is one of those monsters who jumps out at you around the corner still gets me every time. Now I just blow it's head of with the shotgun haha

Anyone play Hitchin' on one of the old school systems?? I think it was sega megadrive????? Can't remember the name, but it was a good game. You were on roller blades & would be on the freeway on the back of cars, & then slingshot your way past onto another one, the kind of car got you points. You could get onto cop cars too, just had to duck down so they didn't see you.

Ahhh I can't believe no one said Star Ocean!

Yeah sory I missed that one. To be exact, it was actually Star Ocean 2 (the first one was in SNES). Very interesting real-time battle set up similar to that of Secret of Mana. Millions of combinations in creating items, cooking (haha). . .Also has very impressive graphic that's on par with FF7. And god the music is so epic! worthy of having a full Cd collection. However I couldnt even finish the game coz got stuck near at the end, those stupid annoying creatures that kept turning all party in to stone and game over, very fustrating. Plus with something like 80 different endings with at least 40 hrs of game play to get each, lol forget it!

It's just such a habbit to forget the 2 because I never played the first one. True about the endings and everything, I only got a few of them...

    • who can tell me what this is and why my car talks to me? i think it's hilarious. it's on my r34 right above the drivers-side storage compartment. the characters under the wrench say "inspection". every 10 or 20 startups, a voice starts talking in japanese from some speaker in this area below the dashboard. it says a few sentences then shuts off. different from the ETC card reader voice that happens every time i start the car. I've never found the speaker, i've never been able to catch the voice and translate what it says, and i've never found a forum thread that tells me how to reset the warnings. the holes in between the symbols are NOT buttons you can press to reset the warnings. anyone else have this? has the demon lord from Hereditary infected my car?!
    • Would you ever vent this bonnet or will it be unnecessary?
    • Happy new years folks! Wishing you all a successful year of money pit ownership!  So the subframe bushes are out....   Ok, who else has done that job before??  What a C U Next Tuesday of a job that is!  Be glad to not do that again in a hurry! I think I explored every option available to chop the middle section of the bushes out, most of them unsuccessfully! I tried a holesaw, die grinder, normal drill bit, air chisel, etc, etc. The true success happened by accident when I'd decided to try a step drill I spotted on the bench on the way passed.  See, there are benefits to never cleaning up after yourself! It RIPPED through so so much better than the drill bit. It has to be the skinniest one available so its small enough to fit between the inner tube and outer casing but it made easy work of it.  First one i hammered the shit out of... New method- 20250102_185506.mp4   I did the other 5 in less time than I fluffed around with the first one. With the first couple I used the cut off saw (sawsall as the yanks love to call them) to cut a break in the outer casings. Even with that they're still a prick to hammer or air chisel out.  The last few i just went rambo with the air chisel without cutting them. I over cut one of the early ones so will hit the with the mig to fill the cut then sand it off smooth.  The carnage left over-   I've also been "nesting" ie, cleaning up my babies nursery,  ie cleaning the f**king pig sty of a shed. I've got that much shit laying around it's as cluttered as my head!  Getting things put away, in boxes, on shelves, hanging off walls, all to get some working space back again.  Hopefully that keeps me motivated....
    • AFAIK does the base map for Haltech even have the 4D compensation enabled? It's been a while but when I looked at it I remember it was actually using pure TPS as one load signal and MAP for another. Seemed workable but not ideal by any stretch. A lot of people have "make the event-itis" which leads to stuff like this happening.
