Guys,

This is the spec of my engine going into my R32 GTR will this make 350rwkw

1. RB26 Head

2. Rb30 Bottom End

3. Prepped Factory Rods

4. ARP Rod Bolts

5. CP Forged Pistons

6. O-Ringed

7. Balanced

8. 600cc Nismo Injectors

9. Nismo Fuel Reglator

10 .Apexi Power FC

11. Q45 AFM

12. XTR T60 Turbo

13 XTR 55mm Wastgate

14. 6BOOST Manifold

15. Will this engine need cams to make the KW i want?

One by one;

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. No

4. Yes

5. Yes

6. Yes, but what head gasket?

7. Yes

8. Yes

9. Yes, but not necessary though, what fuel pump?

10. Yes, but it will need to be tuned by someone who knows what they are doing.

11. Yes

12. Yes, very responsive

13. Yes, but it depends on the boost level

14. No idea, never heard of them

15. Would do better with some upgraded cams, get the boost down a little too

What inlet/plenum are you using? If standard RB26DETT then that will be OK.

Would do better with a ported cylinder head, help get the boost down a little at the same or higher airflow. Little bit more power and a lot less boost, that's the target, helps the engine live a little longer

Personally I think you have a conrod power limiter, I have not seen standard RB30 rods live in a DOHC environment (higher rpm and faster acceleration than SOHC) much over 500 bhp (300 rwkw).

Hope that was of some help

:D cheers :(

6Boost has been churning out steam pipe manifolds, not too bad quality wise. Why would you need to upgrade rods, I mean with RB26 rods being proven to reliably go over 400awkw and the longer rod/stroke ratio how could the RB30 rods not be up to par?

60mm turbo =~ 60lbs airflow, roughly 600hp/450kw @ flywheel, so just under 400rwkw in geek hypothetical speech.

I know, I know...........but (there is always a but)

We are up to around 30 X RB30DET's now and the ones that have standard rods and stayed below 475 bhp, 1.1 bar and 7,500 rpm have not had a problem. The ones that have exceeded 475bhp and/or 1.1 bar and/or 7,500 rpm have all had problems. The most common being big end bearings, the big end journals are no longer round and the little ends bearings are oval on the compression load.

Maybe if you could make 600 bhp at 1.1 bar without reving them over 7,500 rpm it would be OK.

:D cheers :(

SykneyKid answers

R33 GTR Fuel Pump with a direct 12V supply from Battery

I can get a set of H Beam rods from Spool Up imports and a set of HKS 272 cams would this be better

The tuner is good at what he does

Have you built any with aftermarket rods? and what rpm do you take them to?

Ok, what about if i throw a set of Spool Up RB30 Rods and some HKS 272 cams?

Are they rods from Brad (Spool Imports)? If so, they are OK.

The HKS 272 cams might be a little big, the T60 is going to build boost a bit early, with 3 litres of exhaust, for them. The Jun 264's with high lift would be my choice.

:) cheers :)

if you dont want to have to machine the head and replace valve spring, cam retaining studs and lifters(depending on lift) the TOMEI 260 deg 9.15mm PONCAMS are direct bolt in fit and i got two rb26 making 400rwkw+ on them with great responce with small twin turbos.

i think the combo will make the power you want with cams you may struggle without them, i would recommend adjustable cam wheels if you are willing to spend the time tuning them (well worth it on rb26 and especially rb26/30).

and i would go the aftermarket rods as SK stated

other ideas you might want to concider

tomei oil gallery restrictor ($6)

N1 oil pump or better

N1 water pump

metal gasket instead of o-ringing the block

low temp thermostat (if your going to work it hard for long periods)

ok then hahaha what about without a billet crank girdle, what rpm have you found safe with aftermarket rods

In a circuit racing environment I have found no reason to go over 8,000 rpm. They make plenty of power, that's why we use 3.1 litres, so we don't have to rev the beegeesus out of them. It's the same airflow as an RB26 at 9,600 rpm, assuming equal efficiency, and that isn't going to happen.

:) cheers :)

i make 355rwkw on 16psi at 7500rpm..... and someone elses i know makes 300rwkw at 5000rpm on 17psi

yours will make it no problems......

the standard rods should be able to take a beating at this power level, but dont trust everything you read! :D

probably add some head studs in and some good bearings......... i dont reackon you need cams, what is the intended use for your car? maybe this will govern the need for cams.....your coils might cry for help when you start making more power then 350rwkw :D

I'd say a definate need for cams, as already stated.

The RB26 takes extremely well to a mild set, and thats all you'll need for 350rwkw.

Coils could be a problem indeed, depends on thier condition
