Hey Guys n Girls

Im going to take out the very average stock system from my R33 and am looking for suggestions on what to fill the space with. I dont wanna spend heaps so im not looking for the biggest and the best. I am thinking.

Head unit - Pioneer / JVC

Font speakers - 6 1/2 inch splits

Rear Shelf - 2 x 10 inch subs or 8 inch if they are available

Amp - not really sure, maybe 4 channel not sure on wattage

Does this mix sound like it will work well? I will reinforce the parcelshelf with mdf or ply.

Any suggestions are welcome cos i know nothing really about stereos.

:(:D :D :D :D

You would have the 2 10's in the boot not on the rear shelf wouldnt u?? Make sure u get ur boxes for the subs made well by someone who understands the physics of sound systems cause the size box u buy can affect the sound greatly!

When I get my system I wanna get the new Pioneer deck that splits into 2 faces...any of u guys seen it...its the best looking deck i've ever seen!!!

Nah havent seen the deck yet.

I measured the back parcel shelf. 10 inch = about 25 cm i think and i can fit a 25 cm circle on the shelf. I dont know about depth though, havent looked under the shelf. I think depth was about 13.5cm. Is there such a thing as an 8 inch sub?

I wouldn't put the subby in the rear shelf... i'd put some extra 6" in the back and shove the subby(s) in the boot. My JVC mp3 deck is doing me well so far - but i need to upgrade my speakers. Don't get speakers that are too cheap - with car audio stuff you get what u pay for.

You're going to have problems with the subby cone coming down on the computer/battery and would have to relocate things. That is the key problem you're going to have.

Don't skimp too much, you will regret it later, want to sell the stuff, and end up spending more.

OK i reckon keep everything at the front the way it is but either get 2 6x9's or 7x10's on the parcel tray or rear shelf wateva u wanna call it and get maybe one 12 or two 10's or wateva in their boxes in the boot....i've never seen u sub in a rear shelf probably due to the fact that they need they own box for good sound and would weight to much for the rear shelf....

I'm not sure if there is such thing as a 8inch sub but it probably isnt worth getting anyways....

Not wanting to boast or anything but I have one - DEH-P8450 i think is the model number. It's a good deck - everyone who gets in the car is pretty amazed by the flip down thingy and the graphics and stuff. But I mainly got it because it plays mp3's, has 3 pairs of 4Volt rca's and has the cellular mute function (which is deadset handy).

kenwood make 6 inch subs...not a bad idea if you want a little more bass and have no room...so i wouldnt bother. 8 inch subs are available aswell, but depending on the type of bass u want (if you want it to sound half decent) i wouldnt bother putting them in the shelf...but if you must, "free air" subs are made for the shelf. but a word of warning...the back shelf plays a part in "safety" with the car in a collision, infact, the whole car is designed to disperse the impact evenly, so if you go cutting out bits and pieces here and there, you could be causing problems. and your car mightnt be roadworthy.

if you want a lot of bass inside the car, you can get a box made up that ports through the shelf...smaller holes and looks neater, and more inconspicuous

Thanks guys.

I went and scoped out JB hifi today and sought of chose what i want. Im gonna go pioneer deck, front 6 inch splits, rear 6 x 9's and a 12 inch sub in the boot. im thinking of using velco (spelling) to keep the box from sliding, i read that on another thread, i thought it was a cool idea

Hey How are you? just a quick suggestion...don't buy anything from Jb. That would be your first mistake... a small store will offer you much better service as well as just as good a price...if not better. just ask me... i am a car audio retailer. If yougiveme a budget of what you want to spend i will tell you what is the best to get and you should be able to find it where you come from.... I am putting a set of 3-Way Phoenix Gold Titanium series Splits in my Front doors=9" woofer + 6.5" Mid + Tweeter..... Rear Shelf= 2-way Phoenix Gold Titanium Series Splits=6.5" Mid + Tweeter.... Subs= 3 * Phoenix Gold Titanium Series Subs In A Fibre Enclosure....Yay :(

STUGTS - sounds like you will get a decent setup there, just make sure you get a good amp to power it all.

Hmmm..dunno there eliter33 - from what i have seen, JB has the cheapest price for standard stuff. From experience, you can generally get 30% off the list price if you are buying multiple things at once.

If u want more pro stuff like alpine and the like, yeah, you need to go to a more specialised retailer cause JB doesn't stock any of the more expensive stuff - just mass consumer stuff.

but the thing is all us retailers get the product at the same buying price when it comes to car audio usually, so we can work on just as low a margin as the next JB (for example...no put downs intended) and i guarantee that the speacialist dealer would work much harder to get your business (eg. better price) becuase they rely on dedicated repeat customers. but either way i hope that STRUGTS gets a goo price and system in the end :)

what i would probably recommend is for you take take your time on your system and not rush into it... plan each peice carefully. Start with your deck and work back, you don't want do have to make your system more than once. so make sure that each piece of gear that you purchase is of very high quality...not lacking any features that u may want in the future (eg.in a deck- Mp3, Sub Out, Stacker Control, 24 bit DAC, 4V Preouts etc) these are features that i know i personally cannot go without. It may cost you more in the longrun but it is the type of system that you would never need to upgrade; the type of system that you can take from car to car.

Option 1-

Decks: Jvc Kd-Lh2000 RRP $749 should get discounted to at least $650

-24 bit Digital Audio Converter

-Front, Rear, Sub Lines Out

-Flip Front

-Mp3/Cd/Cdr/Cdrw/Tuner

-Remote Control

-Stacker Compatible

-MultiColour Display

Splits: Brands such as "Boston Acoustics", "Orion", "Phoenix Gold"....- All big name American brand speakes will have a nice hard hitting bottom end, with a crisp top end from previous experience... so i highly recommend brands such as the above examples for your speakers.

Amps/Subs: as for these... the same as the above mentioned works well here too...American names.... :)

this will turn out to be above your budget... but i suggest you spend that money on your deck and splits first as Stage 1. Then Stage 2 is ur amp/sub/rear speakers.

Option 2-

Deck: JVC Kd-Sx985 RRP $529 (Prob get for about $480)

-Front/Rear/Sub Lines out

-MP3/CD/CDR/CDRW/TUNER

-Stacker Compatible

-Remote Control

-Flip Face

Splits 6": Boston Fs60 RRP $329 (prob get about $299)

2-Way Coaxials 6" (rear shelf-won't need 6x9 or such as you will have a sub): Boston Fx6 RRP $199 (get about $185)

Amp (Get a 4 channel to run the sub and the splits; run the rears off the deck)

eg. Clarion APX400.4 RRP $599 (prob get about $430)

this should also sound quite good but would suggest the first... everyone will tell you different.... just make sure above all that you listen to it and love it and it is what makes you happy in the longrun...

p.s. don't stinge on good cabling for your system it is just as, if not more, important than the components themselves... :)

i don't have 6x9 in the back .. still got the stock speakers ... whats a decent pair of speakers i can get that will fit the back for say 150-200 bucks?? and splits for say 200?? also will i get good enough bass by running these normal speakers ... i mean i just want something which i can listen to while saving up to get the amp and sub??? but still be good enough til i get the amp and sub without having to replace them.

thanks
