ok i've been wanting a skyline for a long time now..

i have a job that pays cash in hand (no tax) roughly close to 1k a week in hand

i have no idea how the car buying world works since i have never bought from a dealer or private, i currently have a galant vr4 which got given to me by my older brother, it served me well for a while, but i'm ready to move up.

i've been looking at a few skylines at some dealerships on parramatta road (sydney) and have found 1 that i would like to buy

is it possible to just walk up to the dealer and say "i want this car, can we work out a monthly payment plan, fill the required forms and get the keys today?"

i know this sounds really newbie but i have no idea how i would go about buying one..

i can't pull a loan because of some tax issues, and i can't put anyone on guarantor because i don't have a spouse/partner or parents. :P

thanks in advance to anyone who bothers to help me :P

p.s. i'm 18, 19 in 2 months ;)

also i've found a supra at a car dealer that i'm possibly interested in

1994 supra twin turbo RZ 6spd manual

22,400 genuine km's (with proof)

white in colour

immaculate inside and out

already has the standards (full exhaust, front mount, SSQ BOV, boost controller and guages)

$28,900 and he said if im genuinely interested in buying it, he can "look after me" and drop the price even lower.

i took it for a test drive and i have to say... wow. it's really quick.. rammed me back in my seat.. couldnt even move my head coz of the pressure lol

if i wanted to buy that would i be able to?

what kind of monthly repayments would i be looking at?

would the interest be high?

the last i heard is that the car dealerships are a quiet market and can approve things like this on the spot and get me the car i want... is this true?

thanx :P

p.s what do you mean by he will blow his load over me? is that a good thing? lol

Good for the dealer yes. I assume he means you are a car salesmans wet dream, as you have no idea what you are doing, and therefore he can convince you to pay whatever he wants. If you get low interest be careful because they hit you with fees. Also make sure that there is no fee for paying off the car early, coz that can suck.

My advice: Take a friend, parent, relative, family pet, ANYONE who has experience in buying and selling cars, if for no other reason than to LOOK like you will be hard to rip off.

save your money and pay in cash, they go all gooey when you thump a big wad in front of them and usually drop the price quite a bit, if you want finance be prepared to pay for it because from what info your given so far they'll rip you till you bleed. Be prepared for insurance as well because they wont finance without it.

AND if you pay off early, pay everything except the last thousand and there will be no slug.

oh man where to start.

1.) DO NOT buy from a dealer.

2.) you get $1K cash in hand per week. save for about 6 months and you'll have enough cash to buy a car outright.

3.) do not get finance.

4.) DO NOT buy from a dealer.

5.) get your cash together and buy a car from a forum member on here.

6.) DO NOT buy from a dealer.

If you can't pull a loan for tax purposes then you can't get finance aswell. Car dealers use finance companies like GE money so there no pint in asking the dealer for a loan and promise to pay it back every month over 5 years.

Either find a friend/family with the cash and pay them back or just save up for 6 months. In this time you can spend countless hours researching about what you would like in your first purcahsed car. This will also give you time to get to learn the market to which you have no clue about.

or just rob a bank

Good Luck

yeah car dealers use finance companies so it's just like getting a loan anyway. If you can't get a normal loan because if tax issues then you won't be able to get one thru them. Especially if you have no payslips due to the cash in hand thing, and no one to go guarantor.

you'll have to save up, or maybe try getting a dodgy loan from a loanshark lol

if you have cash you'll be able to get a better deal anyway.

cash in hand means no tax. its obviously illegal, as in the governements eyes, you are unemployed and can therefore receive unemployment benefits etc.....some people choose to risk it...obviously this guy is.

finance also has a ridiculously high interest rate if im not mistaken, as oppose to the standard interest rates from banks for personal loans etc

Yep, all the way up to 28%pa. That's what you pay when you ring those guys on TV that say, "no job? poor credit? been bankrupt? We can help you!" because you pay through the nose for the loan.

Dude, when you are shopping for cars, try VERY hard to keep thoughts of cruising, zoom zoom and so on out of your head. Look at the car as a tool or a piece of equipment. Buy one that meets your requirements and is going to give you the least problems.

Salespeople will always work hard to appear approachable and friendly, that's their job. ALL salespeople can "do you a deal" because they have sooooo much fat. GTST is right on, don't buy from a dealer, they are a waste of money. By all means, use a dealer to find out which car you like, then go privately to buy.

Pay cash. I've sold a few cars and when a guy turns up with cash:

1. You know they are there to buy a car

2. When they turn to walk off with that cash, your price becomes negotiable again... :P

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
