You arent getting it tuned thats the difference..

$60 is all you should pay and they usually give you 2-3 runs and should take 1/2 hour or so..

The main thing you have to know is what dyno figures you want..

The lower reading dynos being Formaz, PSI, rotormotion, United Fuel injection getting higher is Barries Dyno,Genie, then Myaree.

These are the ones im familiar with I would probably go to Formaz myself, I wouldnt mind getting Barrie to tune my Car but i think he reads a bit high if u want a true figure..

Osc@r, Trust me he doesn't need the business, he is busy all-day everyday, people keep ringing to pick his brain over what is wrong with there car, if your just after a power-run then choose someone else. At least if you make a booking with SST they will keep it.

Macka, there is no true figure when it comes to dyno's, just look at what happened at Motorvation, cars were reading way different than usual. All dyno's have compensation factors, so that the operator can fudge the numbers, some operator like to make it look like they gained you 50hp when in fact you got F-all.

Unfortunately no standard exist for dyno's, as they use different technology to measure the power, just choose someone you trust and stick with them.

couldn't agree more with gtst vspec there!

Ive learnt now that nearly every dyno has a different reading... Weve all seen before in the past were some one says they pulled 280 rwhp with only exhaust, boost and some Fast and furious stickers down the side (which naturally add 50rwhp anyway!)

So maybe when looking to get just a tune well don't concentrate on how correct the dyno readings are maybe judge on how good the operator is!.... I have also heard good thing about SST maybe give them a go?

I know that Steve at SST is having these correction factors removed from his dyno software, he thinks the whole idea of being able to change the reading is BS, he want his customers to be sure that they are getting the correct reading every-time.

rev210,

I don't think the original point of the thread is to determine the merits of a dyno, I think that pricing was the main issue. With prices varying from $70-$130 then it is a real issue, no-one want to pay more than they have to, but we all want a good job done.

That's exactly right! ;) There shouldn't be such a massive difference in price when each place offers the same service! Oh well!

Originally posted byG0DF4Th3R hahah JiMiH let me know whut the figure is ok? bet that kewl car has the go to back up the show.

hahah I seriously wish it had a lot more go! I'm thinking that I'm not going to mod this engine much anymore, and then in maybe 2 years I might take the engine out and swap it with something a little more ... interesting ;):P

I think if you take into consideration of the cost of a 4wd dyno compared to a 2wd one then the need to make the dyno pay for itself would have a big impact on the hourly cost.

If the top end pricing are 4wd dynos then this would explain the difference.

Cheers

Chris

that's true, but surely......

15x customers @ $70/each = $1050

7x customers @ $100/each = $700

hmmm, it works like this: Volume @ lower prices is BETTER than rare custom @ high prices...

Tuning shops/telco's/computer shops/most places DON'T understand this!!! and it pisses me off!!

Strichnine,

I agree with your wise words, but even the expensive places are busy most of the time. As the consumer we have the power to choose whoever we like, somtimes I don't go for the cheapest because I know I'll get a better job done, other times I will.

JiMiH,

I'd take some of the recommendations given here, but if go to them and don't like them then you are free to try elsewhere.

Well after all this then, next week I'll take my car in for a dyno sess ... and I think I'll go to SST.

They seem to have an overall good rap, good price, and my brother took his car there once and the guy seemed like a good bloke.

Cheers.

JiMiH,

Steve (SST) is a top bloke, he will look after you well, and he has been in the industry for a long time so he has lots of good advice. Let me know when you are going down and I'll see if I can meet you there to see how your car goes.

Adrian,

SST is in Radium St in Welshpool, he dose dyno tuning/testing, but also builds race cars etc. Grant Borjornac is next door (Per4manz Tubochargers) and he does Intercoolers/Turbo's etc.

So if you go and see Steve then he will be able to point you to the right people.

See'ya
