OK, thought I should put this thread in to help out others in the future.

A Clarion 4-channel amplifier (edit: installed behind sub)

A Clarion 6-stack CD player fits fine under the passenegers seat, easy to get to.

A Clarion subwoofer in custom box can be easily strapped into the wagon space, and can beremoved when that space is needed.

Head unit: Clarion with tape player, fully adjustable.

Front speakers: Pioneer 6.5inch 4-way speakers, 16cm diameter, 91db, 57mm mounting depth, model TS-A1681S, 260w (fantastic)

Rear speakers: Eclipse 6.5inch 3-way speakers, 80w only but good for 90db, 49mm mounting depth - any bigger & it wont fit due to baffles that are in that rear door area (have been told the baffle stops water getting on the speakers - so dont take them out!)

Standard speakers, as SK has mentioned before, are Clarion 15w, maxed outr at 30w. Mine were terrible. Juncked them in the bin.

The sound is unbelievable. Awesome bass etc. Wicked!!

Make note of the rear door mounting depth.....

I think I posted mine somewhere........

Nakamichi head unit, in the top single din slot

Nissan Pathfinder flip top box in the other (bottom) din slot, silver lid matches the Stagea dash and console surround

Soundstream 4 channel amp 120 watts per channel mounted where the standard stacker goes in the LHS rear 1/4 inner guard (the ATTESA reservoir is in the RHS 1/4)

MB Quart DKE116's in all foor doors

They are 165mm diagonal between the mounting holes and 180 mm total diagonal. Bit tricky to fit as the MB's are perfectly round and the standard speakers are a rounded off square. No problem with depth though.

I use the rear for carrying stuff far to often to have a sub, the MB Quarts do a pretty good job and I am not into doof, doof anyway.

SK... i was actually thinking the other day about what amp would fit in that lhs 1/4.... which soundstream model are u running.. an older series or the newer range stuff?

brendan... my r33 came with an amp under the drivers seat.. i found my front seat got rather warm after a spirited session of music listening.....

and the amp came out looking like it had been in the car for 30 years.... does the amp go snuggly under the seat? might consider it under the passenger seat if so..

Yeah, well, I had a good look at the system last night, after the post here, and saw that the damn amp was on the back of the subwoofer still (as it was in my VR).

Couldnt believe it, as that wasnt how it was arranged beforehand..... BUT, having said that, the amp/sub box fits extremely well in the LHR rear qrt panel area, right between the wheelwell and the rear door. Almost fluch mounted in line with the wheelwell, so I'll leave it there.

So I'll add an edit to the first post. Yup SK, had read your thread, just wanted to let ppl know about rear door speaker thickness.

Well my head unit is a Pioneer DEH-P1Y MOSFET with CD/MP3/WMA capability - 60Wx4 and is mounted in the lower DIN slot - upper slot retained for 3 X guages.

Front speakers are 6" splits - Focal 165KP"s - 80W RMS.

Rear speakers are Alpine SPS 170A's, Co-Axial 2 way - 40W RMS.

The amp is an Eclipse EA3422 - 4 X 50W RMS. The amp hides under the drivers seat.

A bit of a hybrid mix but all components definately compliment each other and produce exceptional soudn quality.

Current plans cater for a CD stacker to go under front passengers seat, but not planning on mounting a sub-woofer - need the back area for carrying.

The small sub box with woofer and amp sits snuggly behind that LH wheel-well. Still great for carrying loads as it doesnt hinder the space, plus can still have the odd drive-in movie experience!

No way I could fit a sub on the rear, I had 8 wheels and tyres in there last week and an RB25DET gearbox. That took up every square inch of space.

The Soundstream amp is about 6 years old. It did good service for about 2 years and then sat unused for 3 years until the Stagea needed its services. I like the sound, not to harsh so it suites the MB Quartz very well.

Is there some difference to the current Soundstream amps?

the newer ones just didnt have the same standard as the old ones......

oh.. im running alpine iva-d300e 7in indash screen....

everything else is stock for now...

Excelleant, good info, how old is " the older soundstreams"? Is my 6 year old one old or new?

All pioneer except the sub. Pioneer amp under drivers seat, kevlar splits in front doors and Kevlar 6.75" in rear doors and JBL 12" Sub sitting in its box in the back.

I made a custom Sub box with 2 x 10" woofers and a 5 channel amp last year, i had pics of it up a while ago but they've gone now. i made the box shaped to the back of the wagon and it fits nicely between the towers and under the boot cover.

In the front i have a pioneer MP3 head unit something, i forget the model number, 5*** series

Sounds like we nearly have the same system, does your pioneer mp3 player have the blue and orange colours and moving pictures?

I got mine all from ebay and saved a lot of money.

It has 2 knobs on each side, it's blue colour but doesn't have any pictures. It's the 5650 i just remembered. my mate has the 5750 and it has the pictures on it. I got it at summernats last year from the JB hifi shop and saved about $300 on it. everything i bought was on massive sale, i'm not a retail-paying chump

My sub and front speakers are off the amp, and rear speakers are off the head unit. Good allround response.

I too can hardly hear the doofdoof music when standing outside the car, very loud inside but quiet as outside. Nice.

I find my doors are piss weak when it comes to sound deadening.

When i was listening to some techno quite loud and arrived at my mates place, he said it was really clear/loud outside the car when i rolled up

my doors (both front & rear) will be getting a few sheets of this stuff put in when the stereo goes in.

If you want sound deadening, this would be the stuff to go for.

I have some pictures of the standard CD stacker that was there before I put the amp in. I just removed the stacker and bolted in the amp, I made up a couple of 3mm aluminium brackets to adapt the amp shape to the stacker mounts. I will take some pictures of the amp tomorrow and post them up.

I don't think it should. I keep a bottle of ATF, Brake fluid and a chamois in that pocket, and they're never warm when i pull them out.

I actually runs much cooler in there than it used to under the drivers seat with carpet up against it and the seat a few mm's above it.
