Just a question, I'm thinking about getting a carbon fibre vented bonnet but how do you stop the rain (water) from getting into the engine bay?

I'm sure once the engine is up to temperature the water would just evaporate once it hits the engine..

But what about when washing your car or something?

You definately wouldn't want the water to leak in from the vents and get the electricals or something, true?!

Any ideas how you can over come this?

i have a vented carbon bonnet and have never had any problems with water getting to any of the electrical components. i would suggest spraying them with something like lanasol though, especially if it is being parked outside. just to be on the safe side :Dpost-16070-1128767407.jpg

I got an East Bear 400R Carbon bonnet, and it came with plastic covers that go over and bolt on covering the vented holes.

Great quality bonnet too.

And problem solved.

(I'd also recomend bonnet pins if you plan on doing any drag or track days.)

If it's not to much of a pain in the a$$.. would u mind taking a photo or two of the covers that are on the vents?

It would give me a rough idea of what I may need to make up :O

Would be muchly appreciate :D

I bought my bonnet through Stephen22 (a member on here) and Jetspeed said they do them too. Bonnet pins would be a good idea as it flexes heaps at speed esp if following something creating heaps of turbulence.

Here's a pic for you. hope it helps.

The two little covers go on the top and screw in from the under side, to cover the little vents. And the big cover goes on the underside of the large front-centre vent, where the mesh is held on with 3 screws, you take the mesh out put the cover on, then the mesh back and it's all sealed.

*siddr20 -- it cost me close to 2K, but hey, it matches the boot.

Did Jetspeed give you a quote for a CF bonnet?

Damn each time i see your car it looks better. It was good at SAU show and shine.Good work.

Pressa if all you want to do is create covers for your vents when giving it a shower, then,May i suggest for you to take the mesh off and get another person to hold a peice of cardboard against the underside of the bonnet hole and you trace from the outside a line to cut, number the covers, and make them out of perspex.

Then put the mesh back in and push them in every time you wash the car.

You can make a seal by putting silicone and a rubberstrip arround the edge.If you have ever seen how mirror wardrobe doors are made or showerscreen doors are made then you will know how easy it is to make the rubber option up.

On the other hand somthing soft like silicone would probably suffice.

To make it a tight fit would depend on how much smaller than the vent holes you cut the inserts.

Just some food for thought.

Doesent that defeat the purpose of haveing the vents like that??

I was looking at adapting a vented section on the stock bonnet to mine, so the bonnet retains its strenght as the cross members dont need to be cut.

No.............

You use the covers when you park it in the rain or when your washing the car.

You wouldn't use them when your driving.....

siddr20 -- ^^ hmmm from who did u import it thru??

Got 'em from Powerplay in Sydney.

    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!
    • Welcome Alice......hope you have a bit more luck from here on! What was done in the build?
    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
