re: the respray... it could have just had shitty paint (i.e. acid rain/fallout, left in the sun/peeling/fading, not looked after etc) I honestly don't think there's a problem with panel work, as long as it has been carried out properly, and a decent inspection by yourself, and someone who knows what they're doing would soon point out anything thats not kosher... I.e. if you go look at it, take someone who knows their skylines, and get them to have a look at the car with you and give you their honest opinion... and then go back another day (don't buy the same day!!!! always think about things!!!) with a panelbeater or something, or take it to a panelbeater and get them to go over the car, make sure there's nothing dodgey in the repairs (if it has any, which it probably will)

if its just been resprayed, and its fresh from japan, have to ask yourself why.. be careful.. would you buy it if it looked like it befor? that is the question..

I definitely agree. A respray isn't necessarily a good thing - it may be covering up previous accident damage etc.

In addition, $14000 is a seriously hefty price for an R32 GTST these days. You can pick up similar cars for under $10000. You just have to ask yourself, is it in $4000 better condition than the other cars out there? My 130,000km skyline came in at under $10k, and was pretty much immaculate other than a missing air vent (which really pisses me off - anyone got a spare?) and some very minor scratches.

At $14k, you have to seriously want that car because it is up against serious competition! I've seen some very good cars like R33 GTS25Ts, Eunos Cosmos, Mitsubishi GTOs etc. for thousands less. I've even seen a GTR for less. It was completely trashed, but still less. Here's the Link if anyone wants to see the worlds cheapest GTR... (dont buy it though - it's f@cked)

Anyways, it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for it. If you are willing to pay $2-4k over the average price, then there is no problem. Do what you want, not what we say!

i paid $17k for mine just on a year ago now, and that was the going rate for them back then (Mine is a '92 model) and since then have spent probably 8k on it (upgrading, not fixing) and if i was to sell it i would be asking around 18k for it... some of you may say that i'm dreaming... well, thats your opinion.. to me, it is worth alot more than that, as it is in better condition now than when i bought it...

so not everything is these cheap sub 10k 1989 crappers that are coming out of japan at the moment....

The prices of R32s have dropped considerably in the last year due to the influx of cars being imported under the 15 year old rule. This has caused prices to plummet literally thousands of dollars as the market is innundated with an over supply of very cheap vehicles from Japan. Just 1 year ago $17k wouldn't have been completely unreasonable for a vehicle in exceptional condition, but today I think you would seriously struggle to find buyers at $18k, even with $8k worth of extras. It is dangerously close to GTR money. I dont doubt that your car is in excellent condition, but as a buyer choosing between a GTR and a GTST for the same money, it's going to be very hard to convince them to choose the GTST.

Might as well chuck in another 1 or 2k and you could get an R33, unless you prefer the 32 shape that is, even then, I'd get a cheaper 32 and spend the remaining balance on upgrades.

In my case it covered up a minor knock in the rear quarter, decent hit at the front, and another hit in the driver's door. I only decided to paint it because I had to replace a sill panel.

And after the expense I've gone to to have the car sorted structurally (inc. near rear quarter) I wouldn't sell the car for the same money as other "89 shitters". :)

What I'm getting at is judge each car on its merits. He may have imported it for $7 and then spent $5k painting and repairing and is now trying to make a buck? Hats off to him if he is, but yeah it's expensive for an R32 but I've spent nearly five figures on my car just in paint and panels (grrrr).

New factory paintjobs are cool.

I've also been considering looking at a few of that guys r32's but it just screams something dodgy. Most of his vehicles have been resprayed, although they look pretty clean, you've gotta think its been in a accident.

13k - 14k might seem like a good deal at first glance... but then add in registering costs about 1k or more, and stamp duty... imo I its way to much to pay for a 12yo+ car. I would only pay that much with it already registered and with rwc.
