the R32 and R32 V Spec brakes are identical, 4 pot sumitomo calipers over 296mm discs

the R32 V spec 2 brakes (and all 33 and 34 GTR) were 4 piston brembo calipers (larger than the sumitomos), over 324mm discs.

Hey,

Begging your pardon, but the R32 V-spec has Brembos. At least, my

V-spec (1993) does :P So:

R32 GTR - Sumitomo calipers, smaller discs

R32 GTR Vspec(93) and Vspec II(94) - Brembo calipers, larger discs

As far as I know, the only differences between V-spec and V-spec II are

that the V-spec II had different profile tyres and is newer. I have

heard mumblings about an active yaw controller (like on the 33 V-spec) but

haven't seen an R32 V-spec II diff to check (and I think it's just confusion

between 32 and 33 V-specs). Mine has no AYC that I can see.

I've never seen a V-spec II in the flesh. There was an article in a recent

HPI or Zoom, but they didn't photograph the rear diff (they did mention AYC,

but I'll believe it when I see it). I'd love for my car to be a V-spec II, but I

don't think that it is...

Saliya

So the V-Spec AND V-Spec II run Brembos????

Which is it?

To the best of my knowledge:

The R32 GT-R was released Aug '89 and ended production in Dec '94 with 43,934 built (A figure which includes all limited editions listed below).

The R32 GT-R V-Spec: released Feb '93 through to Dec '94 with 1,453 built.

The R32 GT-R V-Spec II: released Feb '94 through to Dec '94 with 1303 built.

The are also 560 Nismo editions & 228 N1 editions (Different to V-Specs)

Both series V-specs as well as ordinary GT-R’s were built through to December 94.

The V-Spec 2 didn't supersede the V-Spec.

Both models had Brembo's & the active diff.

The difference is limited to the suspension.

Saliya,

Could you please post up a photo of your diff?

I'm almost certain the Vspec 2 was the only one with 245/45/17 tyres and the brembos. In fact the brembos do not even fit under the regular gtr 16" rims.

We go to a fair bit of trouble to log book the race cars as v spec 2 to get the larger wheels and tyres :)

Also I am certain that the active diff was never offered for the R32 it is R33 onwards only.

Saliya I think you will find someone just swapped your brakes at some stage, they are a straight bolt on and very popular swap.

The site that photo's off (http://www.gtr.co.uk/html/technical/r32.asp)

thinks that there were lots of different diff covers on R32s and also that

the only difference between the two v-specs was tyre size. There's

no mention made of AYC.

When I went looking for my 32, I was told by the folks at Mooroka

Autoshop that the 32 v-spec's don't have AYC.

But, as I said, I've never seen a v-spec II in the flesh.

Saliya,

Could you please post up a photo of your diff?

I _knew_ someone would ask for that :) I don't have a hoist handy, so here's

what you get. FWIW it doesn't seem to have the huge finning that some

other R32s have, but I honestly can't see any hydraulics going into it. Next

time it goes up I might take more...

Nope, they certainly don't. My car has the 17" 'we produced with spartan air' BBS

rims and the Brembos front/rear.

I've done a little searching around and it appears as though "the almighty

Internet" says that _both_ R32 v.specs had 17/Brembos, and no AYC. So you

_might_ be logging your cars as v.2s for nothing :) Then again, the Internet

doesn't know everything (apparently, my car can do a 12.58 quarter _stock_).

Mine was originally advertised as a v.spec 2; but my understanding is that

with a build date of 93 it can't be that.

Just out of interest, where are you getting your info from (that only the v.spec 2's

had 17/Brembos)? Is there some Nissan piece of software that logs OE wheel

diameter against VIN (like FAST)? Should I be able to write to Nissan to get that

info ? I'd definitely like an authoritative answer.

V-Spec and V-Spec II both had Brembos standard.

Only difference between my V-Spec II and a V-Spec when I bought it was 245 RE01 tyres.

My V-Spec II diff looks standard, but has a flat (fin-less) cover, but thats as per all later model 32s.

The Brembos will fit under an OEM 16 GTR rim, you just need to massage the top of the caliper 2-3mm for clearence.

Look on your blue plate in the engine bay

under model number, mine says KBNR32RBRS8 AA.

The last number 8 means standard 17s. base GTR would have a 7.

To define V-Spec or V-Spec II (no difference in the model designation in the model number) look for B as the 6th letter, again base GTR would say X.

To define the rest, Nissan customer service in Japan provided the following when I questioned how genuine my car was, but I've never actually compared it to a base GTR...

K = Coupe

B = RB26DETT

N = Super Hicas

R32 = Build model

R = 2 doors

B = V-Spec/V-Spec II (base GTR says X)

F = 5 speed gearbox

S = Intercooled turbo

8 = 17" rims (based GTR 16" rims says 7)

A = No delete options (N1/Nismo would say Z)

A = Non N1/Nismo (N1 would say N)

well here is mine, 3/91 standard gtr

K = Coupe

B = RB26DETT

N = Super Hicas

R32 = Build model

R = 2 doors

X = base GTR

F = 5 speed gearbox

S = Intercooled turbo

L = ?? it came with standard 16s tho

M = ??

Z = ??

G = ??

Hey,

I couldn't get the std 16" rims over mine; but that was without making any changes

to the brakes. I got some 16" slicks given to me, which is why I was trying... might

be worthwhile dragging out a set of rims and trying again if it's just a matter of

adjusting the caliper... but it didn't look like a 2-3mm change (the rim

locked up on the caliper about halfway on).

My model number has no '8' or '7' in it at all; it's KBNR32RBFS AA... any thoughts ?

Duncan kindly looked it up on 'FAST' for me, but it didn't say 'v.spec' or 'v.spec 2'.

Is this an RTFM question ?

Thanks,

Saliya

Saliya,

That id plate lines up with other V-Spec (Series 1's) that I have seen. Not sure what the eight is. All the plates I have seen have this particular character blank on the vspec (1's).

My poverty pack 89 model reads: KBNR32RXFSLMZG

My poverty pack 94 version reads: KBNR32RXFS7 AA

So maybe they changed how the plated were stamped at some stage...

The photo actually originates from a for sale notice on these forums! The car was a local (Perth) V-Spec series one that was advertised a few years back. I thought about buying it & now wish I had. One of the nicest I have seen.

Yeah the Brembos will fit under GTR 16s, but you need to remove a few mm off the top, particually a casting mark (a sharp edge in the middle of the caliper) that is fouling your rim. Removing the metal is very easy and its area you will be working on is well clear of any unseen internals.

For good measure we took a few extra mm for greater clearence. Its still a tight fit, but works great and looks better filling the rim.

Is grinding calipers really that good an idea though? Also if they are such a tight fit, do you see there ever being a problem if a stone etc gets caught between the wheel and the caliper???

Just a few things that would concern me, LOL but i have never done it so dont really know:)

Ah, I see. I don't really want to be altering the caliper in that fashion, but useful to

know. Still trying to find out what my 'blank' or lack-of-8 means, but I found this

pic (anybody read Japanese ?) It _looks_ like the 'B' in 'KBNR32R_B_FS AA' means

'17 inch wheels' ...

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
