does it actually work?

does it go off only when there is a radar around or does other things trigger it off?

It sure does go off when radars are in range.

It does pick up other things like emergency vehicles and traffic lights at times, depending on the frequency. They always come up as X band, which you can learn to ignore or just hit the city/highway button and make it less sensitave to things other than cops.

How hard is it to install.... or does it just plug into the cig. lighter (that thing in the photo looks like an adaptor)?

yeah, it just plugs into the cig lighter. then you place it on your dash, or you may mount it somewhere if you like.

takes 10 secs. use it anywhere. Its about the size of a pack of 20's smokes.

whats the range you speak of?

does it detect the mobile speed camera units or just radar guns?

it picks up mobile radar units, traffic light cameras, parked cameras anything really..

it is able to pickup 6 bands, of which only 3 are commonly used.

the range will vary. the manual shows you how and where to mount for optimal operation. There are factors involved, however i've recieved warnings from about 500-700 meters.
