Gee you car audio dudes are on the ball :(

But I agree with your sentiments too. Advertising your alarm system doesn't help you out.

Anyway to that end have temporarily removed the posts from that user which identifies his car and alarm system.

styln car audio in brentliegh - see keith or travis.

Hi Chris,

I need to talk to you again about alarms... I sold the NA 33 and now have a GTST, i am wanting to put a quicktrack type system on it...

I also and wanting some earthquake equiptment...

Chris,

It never seems to amaze me that people just dont get car security.

I always thought that the more secret your were on the type of system you had or the way it was installed would benefit you in a breakin/ theft situation.

There are two crazy things in this post.

1 - A link to a car security company that allows for download ( without registration/ identification) wiring diagrams and information that could be easily used to steal a car with their system.

and... ( and this is the best one)

2 - photos of a car showing clearly it's rego details (number plate) and the type of alarm installed.

Chris, hopefully you would agree.

Guys, for the interest of keeping your cars safe, get a good alarm, have it professionally installed and then, dont tell anyone (not even your mom) what sort it is.

There are a lot of dodgy poeple that read forums to gain information to steal cars.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU POST

I do actually. considering I havea mate teh works for qld transport - I reckon I could work out where that car is , load it and strip it before the owner knew..

sindows,

fire me an email or ring me.

Quality of sheet?

decent actaually- bit hard to override when you need to though. still needs to be fitted properly though.

wouldn't mind seeing some of the installs they do.

I cant remember who you told me was your certifyed sydney/nsw installer?

Vipers have nothing on this, this guy installs vipers mongoose and reconmends this, he's owned 2 32gtrs and a r33 gtst so he knows his skylines. He recenltly installed one on my car, and it was great because he really knows his way around a skyline and he took his time and did a top job installing. He even took out the back seat to run a wire to the back to disable the fule pump in 2 points, (now taking out the whol back seats dedication to his work)

Awsome guy, awsome price, awsome workmanship.

you haven't seen how I do them then?

90% of the car comes apart. ask anyone in brissy thats had one done by me..

So, the back seat was removed? Whats the big deal, Back seats come out of cars all the time.

In fact some alarms recommend removal of seats for component instalation.

I dont think it how much of the car as been pulled apart to put the system in, but more importantly it is where the components are mounted in the car and how accessible they are to tampering.

The same can be said for wiring.

I am not critisising anyone, what ever the method that provides protection for the car is all that matters.

But i do think that some installers and alarm companys instill a false sense of security in the customer. I often laugh at statements such as

'they will never steal it'

' this car isnt going anywhere'

'they will never work out that wiring'

Any car regardless of make can be stolen.

At a business conference lately that involved insurance companies and state law enforcement we were treated to test that some insurance companies perform to access theft potenetial of cars.

Basically it involved some "reformed" car theives that are now employed by these companies to test theft potential of cars. We saw a new falcon , a lexus ( recently rated the most theft proof car in aust by nrma)

and a crappy old current model commodore get "attacked"

The test is for the car to be theft resistant for more than 3 minutes. If it passes this 3 minute mark the car is deemed " theft proof"

commodore vz - 41 seconds - no visable damage to the car

Falcon BF - 1 min 4 sec - no visable damage to the car

lexus ( i forgot the model number) - 3 minutes 4 seconds - no visable damage to the car

Items used to break and start these cars were household items readily available to anyone.

After the demonstration was complete we were allowed a small amount of time to talk to these 'reformed' individuals.

I cant indentify the person that i spoke to, i can only really say that he used to steal holdens for a living. We started talking about wiring and alarms, this person knew the cars backwards, inside out and upside down.

I was actually impressed by his level of technical knowledge on vehicles.

As far as alarms went, he could describe wiring and instal techniques used frequently in workshops nation wide every day. " most cars are easy ( to steal) because the alarm is not well installed" he told me.

This experience has re-confirmed my beleif that it is in the way things are put in to the car that will deem how evective the security systems, alarms etc are.

So, in summary, dont be fooled by someone that apparently does a good job.

GO AND HUNT DOWN A BRILLIANT INSTALLER. THEY ARE WORTH THE EXTRA

http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=156767

Theres the brilliant installer for NSW. Owned numerous skylines over the years, top job.

I appricate the comments FRX but this guy was really good, i havn't herd one bad customers reply, your probably well aware theres numerous shonky ppl out there but i watched as this guy installed my alarm and talked to him and he did a great job. You can't find anthing its all hidden apart from him purpsly taping the turbo timer unit thingy (part of the alarm) to the main lume, making it look like a cheaply installed system but infact is just the turbo timer :D and won't do a thing if removed :D

You can tell this guy was passionate about what he did, i would seriously reconmend him to any one,

and Chris i can see your passionate too wich is good we need more people like the two of you. You shoud pmt his guy on nissan silvia, he's a top bloke and you will soon see from talking to him that his work and PR skills are top knotch so then mabe you can vouch from him onthis forum as a NSW installer. Just a thought!

Excellent service, excellent workmanship, excellent alarms, excelent prices!

Follow that link thats where you search should start and thats were it should finish!

Thats my 2cents worth

Hey chris,

Yeah know your in Qld thats why i was thinking if you can chat to him on nissansilvia.com and then if your happy with his workmanship as i am, you could post on this forum for all teh people in NSW looking for a good fitter. I understand you have to go under special training and be quilfited to install quicktrak, he also has that.

Thanks chris.

Michael

For what it's worth ........ After over 20 years as a sacurity consultant, anything with noise attached to it, isn't worth sh!t, as over 90% of the public don't want to get involved & the other 10% might only look and maybe observe.

With any of the tracking type systems, be sure to know what systems they use for the tracking, most use sattelite tracking, but identification and location is the issue, such as map referrences or grid coordinates etc. and what retrieval system do they use.

If you live on the outskirts of town, be sure that they can track beyond a street directory, otherwise it's useless.

Be sure they use other back up to the police for retrieval, the police have to be in attendance in NSW before the car can be immobilised, but some use private security operatives to track the car till the police arrive and assist with the arrests.

Failing all this, the best kind is something that makes the car totally immobilised where it's parked by it's owner.

I have 2 in my car, one covers the other and I can leave the keys in the ignition and it can't be stolen other than on a Tilt Tray.

Cheers, D

car totally immobilised where it's parked by it's owner

Can you elaborate? (massive spelling error :D) but you get the drift

Elaborate?????

I guess I can try.

There are provisoes, but I guess I mean "the owner" parks his car and it stays where he put it, until he returns to pick it up again. All providing that Mr Tilt Tray operator, or Mr Hiab Crane Truck driver doesn't come along and want it more than the owner does and doesn't give a stuff what it looks like to get it.

The best "Anti Theft" device I have seen in years is a simple fuel tap.

Our modern day EFI cars all need fuel pressure to start, no fuel pressure, NO START. A simple fuel tap, actuated and then allow the engine to idle on for a time, will create a vacuum forward of the fuel tap and left over fuel. On restart, without pressure from the tank, the engine either won't start, or wont run for long & hence car stays where it's put.

But there are many systems that will do this, from locking the gear lever, but this has a rather obtrusive hardened steel plate beside the gear lever console.

I have a beaut little device that that clamps all 3 pedals together, it's made by an old guy in Dapto NSW and costs a whole bank breaking $20.00. Takes about an hour to set up, but after that just a couple of seconds to install. My take is, if you can't operate the pedals, the car can't be driven. That fair to say?

The pic below, is the same unit on my mates S13 180SX. It comes with an attachment that goes under the accelerater, but he claimed it couldn't fit, so he cut it off, but installed, the clutch and brake pedals DO NOT MOVE.

I don't have any statistics on the successes of the tracking type systems, but I do know that my company operated in the Macarthur area of Sydney and once the thieves got off the map (street directory) they might as well have been invisible. A number of times it was only local knowledge that allowed us to follow these tracked cars.

Short of parking the car in some coccoon type impregnable force field, I believe the best system is one that shuts down the fuel, ignition & operating systems.

Hope you now understand.

when it comes to alarm/immob installs. i do it all my self as ive some of the "proffesional" work done by some installers.

e.g 1: my bros laser done though the insurance company, the assholes wired the immob to the starter motor, but his drive way is on a slope so i just do a rolling start, and the car starts.

e.g 2: mums old corsair (voted 1 of the worst cars of the 90's for good reason) also had a shit job done. immob was wired dierctly to the wiring on the starter switch, so when the immob shat it self i undid a couple of screwws, shorted the cut wires, and taped them up!

When i done the alarm on my car i had the main loom apart and wired the alarm/immob loob directly to it (loom sits under dash) then taped the whole lot back up, so all you saw when you pulled the dash out was a bunch of black wires going into the main loom.

a lot of work, but its worth it.

I've used Allan a couple of time and think he's a great guy. Honestly I can't comment on the quality of an install in the same way Chris might (ie. as a fellow professional installer), but what I can say is that he always tries to find the best solution for your needs (even if that means less money for him) and when he does personal jobs (as opposed to contract jobs where he is told to install quickly) he spends a lot of time on the install. The last one he did for me about a month ago he spent 6 hours straight (arrived 10PM; left at 4PM) on the install. Poor fellow, hope he has a good chiropractor :P
