i wouldnt think so, maintence would be similar... usual service etc. if something broke and needed replacing you would have to wait longer for parts. if your lucky might have stock at SOME places. but in general mechanics and parts places dont have any jap parts.

so owning the r34 would have to wait on parts i think more. even though the s15 you proberly still have to wait. but that is a price i would be willing to pay to own the r34.

being well off? i think it will be easier to get finance, insurance etc on s15. but also. wouldnt be massive differnce

i just got an S15, it is cheaper in all aspects... No 100k timing belt change. way way cheaper on petrol, small rims and tyres and still looks good, insurance is cheaper then a 34 because its a 4cyl turbo.

All cars would need a 100k timing belt nonetheless...

It all depends how much km is on the car when you purchased it, both R34 & S15 are roughly from the same era, the S15 probably about 2 years younger by average but I've seen some S15 with higher kms than an older R34...

Insurance might be cheaper but that again all depends on the market price or agreed value that you come up with your insurer. Currently the market price for a newer S15 probably similar with an older R34 GT-T (GT-R is another story).

Also if things break, with 4-cyl you'll only have 4 pistons to fix, 4 injectors to fix, 4 coil packs, 4 plugs.... all these parts win over R34 by 2 each. Also you might be able to get parts from a locally delivered S15 from Nissan, some parts are not priced too bad and you won't have to wait ages for parts from Japan, or browsing thru Yahoo/Ebay auctions hunting for that hard-to-get 2nd hand parts.

Petrolwise probably not much different, if you drive both cars hard, they'll both swallow a lot. Hell my R33 can be guzzling petrol like a hungry V8, but can be cruising along with a NA V6 economy if I just take it easy.

Potential wise both cars have great potential for mods, but as mods increases, your servicing / maintenance / running cost, etc, would increase as well... it's a rule of thumb basically. But IMO the RB's 6-cyl would be a lot stronger and have more potential to easily make lots of power compared to teh 4-cyl SR. Plus the extra 2 cylinders and 0.5L capacity wins in the torque department. More torque = more fun.

In the end, it's all up to your own preference. Looks, sound of that engine/exhaust note, colours, street cred, whatever turns you on... just choose the car you like and go out there and have fun enjoy it... just be wise and don't end up being a road toll statistic...

Just one thing to add to that post: EXCLUSIVITY

How many R34s do you see on the road compared to the s15... even though it may be 2 years older, the R34 next to a s15 will sure as hell have no problems drawing more attention. Main reason, one is an import - the other is a locally sold vehicle.

However, if attention is not your thing then yeah s15 is the way to go - cheaper too!

Exactly. The reason why I want R34 more over s15 is not cos of its looks (i think s15 looks pretty darn good) but for its practicality and size. Being 6'4 is not the best size for an s15...

Sir-D: At 6'4 i don't really think you'll enjoy the S15 much..The interior of the R34 is much better than the S15. Insurance wise, i've asked Justcar before, the qoute i get for R34 is lower than the ADM S15..i was shocked too, i asked why, they explained that b'cos S15s tend to have more accident claims than R34s.. :lol:

haha yeah exactly the same here, the R34 with Just cars is 1000 for me to insure full comprehensive! s15 was around the same :angry:

You hit the nail right on the head there, instead of asking us which car is better you should be sticking ur a$$ in a couple and driving them after all you the one you is purchasing the car and if u cant fit in the S15 coz of your height then ur only option is the 34 or another larger import.

I found the S15 to be very agile and very easy to throw around where as the 34 is a lil more solid as with most skyline's coz of there size and weight, both are great cars.

However the NEO motors are not as good as previous RB's

Yeah i wonna actually test drive an R33 GTS-T and R34 GT-T.

Are they as roomy inside as each other or is R34 slightly bigger?

    • So I'll put filler past the repair area a bit to make sure I don't miss anything. Then I'll block it until it's almost level, put the guidecoat, then keep blocking until it's gone. Then it's still wavy.  In regards to hitting the panel, I saw this video might give more context - Skip to 0:47 he knocks it down. But yeah I'm sanding until the guidecoat is gone then checking because otherwise my filler is still well above the bodyline. Unless what you're saying is I should put guidecoat around it early, surrounding the filler then stip once it's gone?
    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.
    • Stop looking at the garage floor, and turn the radio up a bit louder if there's any strange noises...
    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
